Circus Train had his first race at Will Rogers Downs yesterday, in a small field of relatively equivalent maidens special weight. Six of the seven were at 2/1 to 10/1 odds, and there was one long-shot only.
Circus Train is a grand-looking large gelding with a lot of scope, and an easy temperament. Unfortunately, the race didn't go his way.
He got an okay start from the gate, raced near the middle to rear for the first half, then was five-wide at the turn. He was moving effortlessly, and picking up horses. He bore out a little on the turn, and the jockey whipped him a little from the right side, which startled him. He ducked in, nearly interfering with the other horses, then lost all momentum. He came in a distant fifth.
The final 2/1 favorite won it, and the long-shot came in third.
Hopefully a good learning experience.
