| Spanker was foaled in around 1670, which estimated date fits well with all his other known progeny, and Hobgoblin was foaled in 1724, as evidenced by his racing record. This Spanker Mare's only known progeny is a filly by Hobgoblin, which could therefore not realistically have been foaled before 1729. There is therefore a 59 year gap between the 1729 Hobgoblin filly and the foaling date of her maternal grandsire Spanker, which stretches credulity beyond reasonable limits.
Therefore either the foaling estimate for Spanker of 1670 is too early (unlikely given its fit with his other progeny), or the Hobgoblin filly's pedigree is incorrect, or the filly's dam may perhaps have been sired by Spanker's son Young Spanker.
