Lowland holds an integral place in the history of the Homebush area near Masterton. Bred by the Williams family at Te Parae, Lowland was one of the best stayers racing in Australia in the late 1960's. Tragically, she died of a brain haemorrhage 5/21/69 only a matter of weeks after returning to the Williams family's Te Parae Stud. Although denied the chance to pass on her own ability, Lowland's name has survived through Te Parae founder Alister Williams's initiative to name a race in her memory.
