An underlying factor in this ulcer case may be hypothyroidism. Because the thyroid may not be functioning correctly, the body is not able to process and properly use the protein consumed in the alfalfa and grain diet, therefore the pH levels in the stomach are not regulated, therefore causing gastri...

I too agree that stallions should be horses. I have a son of Marquetry who has bred a few mares, living on strategy, good alfalfa and timothy, with no drugs to "help him out". And the young girls in the neighborhood all come up a pet him ,bring him carrots, etc. A few even hug him. But if any mares ...

Most responsible stallion managers and handlers shouldn't invite visitors to pet their studs. At the larger farms, the stallions are usually on some sort of libido enhancing product, or under testosterone injections, so they are especially aggressive. A couple of missing fingers would probably deter...

My filly was fed Ultium, grass hay, Apple-dex, Ace after a couple of days off, Probios once a week, and Laxus daily w/her feed. She was pre-raced with Lactanese. With nervous, eager fillies, I think the most important part is monitoring the type and amount of exercise with regards to days off.

I have named for various reasons, most based on pedigrees, some are spiritual or romantic: Conceptionsreality - born the same day she was conceived, her sire is o/o an In Reality mare Maggiore's Melody - by Rock and Roll, and goes back tail female to Ribot's dam, who was owned by Tesio's Dormello st...

What about the name that never was! The horse now is named "Awaiting Justice", but she is best known as the filly whose owner wanted to name her Sally Hemmings, but the Jockey Club denied his claim. Her dam is Jefferson's Secret (Colonial Affair o/o Marshua's Secret).

I absolutely loved Proud Citizen at $12,500, but I let my partner talk me out of it. One mare would have been a double RF thru Tamerett and Natalma, the other an RF thru Natalma (both are Northern Dancer line). This year, only one of them was accepted to his book, and now my partner loves him! I sti...

I too just finished reading this, and what a shame! I saw this mare at Plane Tree Farm years ago, and my filly raced twice against Salomay's daughter, Game N Laughin, in May and June '06. I feel your heartache.

Update on Untuttable. Per the Dec. 8th issue of T-times, he now has 78% winners from juvenile starters. 14 starters with 11 winners. I keep track of him cause I own the 1/2 sister to one of his stake winners, Into Reality.
