An update on what happened to him would be appreciated.

Bad news: He was euthanized. See the bottom part of the article:

Re: Seems much less activity on this forum?

Haven't been here for a while, but checking the last few weeks, it seems there is much less activity on this forum than a few years ago. Is that observation correct? If so, I wonder why? Louis quit posting his series, and with that went all the resulting chatter of how right or how wrong he was. An...

If I may contribute my info, Bast, what form would you like it in? Hold that thought. We're still discussing what should ideally be collected. Name, date, track, surface (or in the case of AQU also which track), what happened (pulled up, broke down, DNF, vanned, etc), outcome (if not immediate, rou...

but i do find this interesting. i keep, stupidly meticulous stats on everything that is horse racing. by my record./. JL has never won a graded stakes race past 9F. I might be wrong but i really do not think so. And how many stakes races longer than 9F did JL ride, on a truly competitive horse?

And to anticipate your next post, Bast, no, I don't want to elbow my way into your project. Just tried tracking some vanned off horses once upon a time, briefly. Hope you all have more stamina then I did and can do it long time.

Yes, you should also include the vanned off horses. Many of the vanned off horses still living will resurface on the workout tab over the course of the next 1-6 months. Some may get reported as euthed off the track in the Stewards' Minutes (where available). If the incident happened on a California ...

I would hope so. Unfortunately, unless you can capture the info on all or near all the horses that perished from injuries incurred on the track, your results may have limited validity. Aside from that issue, it's a laudable project.

One of your problems in tracking will be that a some of the pulled up/vanned horses will never again race, leaving unanswered the question of whether they were euthed behind the scenes, retired, or otherwise shuffled out of the deck. And, some may resurface on a track months or even years later.

Was it the Lippizaner's that were saved from being wiped out in WWII by being snuck out of Austria? I can't remember what the breed was but there were not that many of them left and it's taken a long time to get the population to a good number again. The guy that Robert Taylor portrayed in the movi...

Xenophon, the Greek general that wrote the first book on both horse training and dog training, used wind sprints in training young horses. And this was in a time where the fitness of your horse (or your army horses) was a matter of life and death. The technique has been around for a long time. Grif...
