I'm a bit confused after reading this thread. Did Milwaukee Brew go from $7,500 American to $12,500 Canadian? And what about a multiple GSW with a pedigree free of Northern Dancer, Mr. Prospector and Seatle Slew screams 'gelding'?

Lol I tried to cover the same span the two were racing as a means of comparison. Rachel ran three times outside of that time frame, Zenyatta once.

You know, before this year's HOTY question came up the only references I ever heard to the "World Championships" were derision. It's a joke, a marketing strategy that was pretty much laughed at by everyone outside the BC BoD. It even topped the univerally disliked decision to switch to a "Lady's Cla...

...money to prove... Oh, I think this person wants to bring money into the equation: Z - $3,330,000 R - $2,746,914 nuf said! (thanks for bringing that up) Lol way to take the quote I was responding to totally out of context! But how 'bout that money question? This year Rachel won: 1 $1.25 million r...

Lol Dave C, as a fan of both I won't be disappointed if either great horse is honored. What does disappoint me is the disproportionate weight one race carries in these discussions. I've wanted to see Z in so many races this year, and after her performance Saturday it is only that much more bitterswe...

Lol you're right. Because totally destroying outclassed opponents in fast times is just not impressive. My mistake - beating them by a head or a length in slow time is just so much better. But since we're talking about 'fast' track wins - how many horses did Zenyatta beat who came back to win on a ...

I'm not sure what about the list of competition 'burns my eyeballs'? According to your post Rachel defeated 9 2009 G-1 winners, while Zenyatta defeated 8, 7 in just one start. One difficult race does not make up for a 'safe' season.

By all means, feel free to list any "impressive races" you think that Rachel Alexandra won this year.. Gee, I don't know - winning the KY Oaks by 20 lengths, winning the Mother Goose by more, beating males in the Preakness, Haskell and Woodward, that's something that happens all the time. Totally u...

HOTY 2009 - Shades of '98

I can't help but feeling that the HOTY picture we are looking at is very similar to one faced in 1998. That year an undefeated horse who was criticized for having a 'soft' season won the BC Classic over a rival who had what was considered a very strong season. Even though the two actually met up in ...

I thouroughly enjoyed yesterdays race, but I can't see Zenyatta as HOTY for two reasons - her overall season vs. Rachel's and the field she ran against yesterday. The season argument is obvious - Z ran 5 times, at 3 different tracks in 1 state, 4 G-1 wins and one win against males. Rachel ran 8 time...

We stayed a night last summer and it was awesome, just a racehorse junkies dream. You wake up in a room with Richard Stone Reeves paintings, have your coffee by the fireplace with an Eclipse Award on the mantle...just great. Dianne and Michael were wonderful, gracious hosts. Dianne's breakfast was a...

Mastercraftsman

Ok for all you color gurus - what color is Mastercraftsman? I know he's registered chestnut but there's a lot going on in that coat. What do you call it?
