Private Sales

Hi board members, I have stumbled across a multiple stakes winning mare on a equine sales website. She is being sold as a hunter jumper. I haven't yet contacted the owner to inquire but I assume a mare that has won multiple stakes races and well over $270,000 must be infertile? Pedigree Query doesn'...

Re: Opinions on Musketier

Yes thanks. Ive read both of those threads and neither of them addressed my queries above, hence the new post/topic. Likewise, I'm aware that he is not commercially fashionable which is why I mentioned he might be a "breed to race" sire option...but I'm looking for additional information f...

Opinions on Musketier

Any stallion that races through age 10 is definitely "intriguing" in my book. Does anybody have thoughts about him as a sire? His sales record isn't very good but it's based upon a very small sample pool at this point. The Stallion Register said he entered stud in 2013...has anyone seen hi...

Re: APEX and Stud Fee

Hey Jeff, so I have to preface my post by saying: I don't own any horses yet so these are just my musings, but, here it goes: So, I spend a lot of time researching stallions as potential mates (for the broodmare band that I don't yet possess) and I tend to put a lot of weight into sales averages sin...

Re: I want to purchase a TB broodmare

Thanks again Kimberley! All super helpful information. I think getting a bloodstock agent is a good idea. I am not sure yet if I'm going to the TOBA Breeders clinic in May but if I do, I will start inquiring around for an agent. It's stuff like knowing that Katie Its Fine was a well respected campai...

Re: I want to purchase a TB broodmare

Interesting. Looks like she was a RNA 14k in January at Keeneland.

Re: I want to purchase a TB broodmare

Thank you so much Kimberley! It is extremely helpful to have someone else (with way more experience) breakdown their catalogue analysis. My budget is quite modest...no more than 15k is my max I think. I think one of the hardest aspects is trying to pick mares from a catalogue that will sell within m...

Re: Feel Lucky won 1994 Dixieland Stakes, 2nd in Mountain Va

Thank you Jellac! Great information...I didn't know he had a Whitney connection. I really appreciate you taking the time to research this. I will definitely do some inquiry into the local Kentucky and Texas resources. Unfortunately the track photographer (Coady) at Oaklawn couldn't find the 1994 Dix...

This makes me so angry

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/89694/jockey-chapa-suspended-pending-investigation I can't believe that a jockey can get "suspended" three times for carrying an illegal device...three times? Suspension shouldn't even be an option...after the second infraction he should hav...

Re: KeeJan 2015

Yeah, looking through the results it's pretty clear that any red flag on the page was reflected in the price. I have a question regarding hip 899. What does "2009, 2010, 2012, no report and 2013 not mated" really mean? Like, when you see that on a catalog page...does it mean she has major ...

Re: I want to purchase a TB broodmare

Wow, thanks Cherry, this is so incredibly helpful. I live in a state where horse racing basically doesn't exist and beyond reading the TDN and the Bloodhorse everyday I have zero contact with the industry. So talking to people actually involved in the industry is really important to me. When I'm loo...

KeeJan 2015

So, I am having a lot of fun going through the KeeJan catalog and I have questions regarding a few things: First, can someone comment on Hip 782? Really surprised to see her price tag at 20k. I get that she hasn't produced anything of note but is it possible she just isn't a good match with Candy Ri...

Re: I want to purchase a TB broodmare

Thank you Teunis, this is very good information. It's is really helpful to hear other people's sales catalog strategies since I am so new to this. I have always paid much more attention to the first two dams and their produce record but I think aiming for a broodmare sire with 5% is a good angle, an...
