Update

Right now, I'm ranked #33 by customer reviews. To make the next round, I need to finish in the top 100 by Feb 19. So...if you have the desire to take come time and write a review, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

DEP

New author contest

Hi all, I got a little bored last summer and punched out a novel. With little hope, I entered it in the Amazon Breakthrough New Author contest (me and 5,000 other people). Well, lo and behold I made the first cut (down to 835), with the following cut coming next month. Finalists will be determined, ...

Yup - the Bloodhorse goofed. They put Formal Dinner's info underneath Formal Gold. I spoke with the owner yesterday, and the Bloodhorse is going to run a full-page correction the next time they do a West Coast Spotlight edition.

There are a couple of differences in the infertility policy between Cigar and War Emblem. First - Cigar's policy was owned by one insurance company - Generali. The resulting $25 million payoff drove the company out of the equine insurance business. Once they had paid off, they claimed salvage rights...

It must have looked good as a weanling, then went crooked or didn't vet as a yearling.

More info

Ironically, I bought the mare off a lady I know, so I was able to glean a bit more info on her, post-sale. I don't know anything about the Gone West, but the Fu Peg colt sold as a weanling for $70,000, then $10,000 as a yearling (ouch). He's now a stallion in Texas, standing for $1,000 and he got 10...

Bought her at the Keeneland sale. Any suggestions on who I should breed to?

Congrats M - a sale is a sale.
I thought we'd get a little more for our girl (Hip #903), but she went to a good home and will get the best opportunities. And since I still own mom, that can't hurt.

In 1984, I was a 13-year old teenager who'd gone from a slender 5'5" to an unbelievably thin 6'1" in the space of a year. My parents were on an acrimonius and inevitable slide toward divorce. I wasn't particularly good at sports or social skills, and as a middle child was overshadowed by my more ath...

Regarding the Jackpot colt:

Didn't seem him, though the page looked light. And I know Skip wasn't bidding him up, as he was at the Pleasanton sale (like me, watching his horses not sell for their stud fees...sigh).

For all those bemoaning the quality of California racing, I point to Hystericalady. Hasn't been able to win in CA this year, but has shipped to win the Humana Distaff and the Molly Pitcher, and will probably be one of the favorites for the Beldame next weekend. And she got outfinished in CA twice by...

Perecentages

If anyone has the answers to the following questions, that would be great: In general" What percentage of live foals get to the track? What percentage of live foals win races? What percentage of live foals run in stakes races? Reason I ask, of the six horses I've bred of racing age, four have run (t...

Whew. Our partnership did OK. We had to buy back the Unbridled's Song/Halo America for $270K (which surprised me), but we sold the Unbridled's Song/Honestly Darling for $450K, and the Speightstown/Mayo on the Side for $270K. All in all, not bad, despite the tough conditions.

Two mares for sale

Both in Kentucky and open for this year. Capable Miss (stakes producer and dam of a stakes producer) and Simply Saucy (stakes producer and dam of a 2 year old then ran second in her MSW debut last week at PID). Any reasonable offer entertained. PM me for info/details.
