Arabian saddle or not

Ahh, thank you for your input. You are right, my guy does have slightly high withers. I found an article yesterday on how to fit your horse to a saddle without taking the horse to the shop. I think I will try it. Again, thanks for the imput.

Arabian saddle or not

I had a thought the other day. Possible I am way off, but I would like some input since I am new to the thoroughbred breed. I use a western saddle that has quarter horse bars. It is actually a barrel saddle, but I trail ride in it. My thought was, should I be using an arabian saddle for long rides s...

head toss

He was introduced to the western discipline about a year ago. No, he does not act up at the site of a western saddle. He did this head thing with his previous owner too, she is the one who introduced western. She had a different saddle of course. Wonder should I try a arabian saddle since thouroghbr...

Thanks for the input and reccomendations. I have tried Tea Tree Oil, it is in the Miracle Mist, works ok but not great. Have tried the Avon stuff, did nothing. Have not tried scarlett oil, or the other thing that I can't remember, but I will reread it and write it down to try. Thanks, he is so miser...

weird skin thing

Ok, I think my gelding has a fungus. However, NOTHING will get rid of it. It is located on the girth line on the belly and down just a tad toward the rear. It itches him like crazy. I will see him lieing in the pasture just scratching his belly. He had it when I bought him, in March, but the heat se...

head toss

Ok. no offense taken. Thanks for the good input and opinion. I kinda was thinking that it might have something to do with wanting to go along at a quicker pace. If I make him go along, after about 30 seconds to a minute he will stop doing it. He doesnt seem to want me off, or want to stop the canter...

WHAT???????

Ok, I have recently purchased a wonderful gelding TB. Country Cuzzin. He has a race record that I have seen and read, but can not make head nor tails of. If I read it right, he did race from ages 2 until 8. He made 52 starts and got 1st 6 times, 2nd 4 times, and 3rd 6 times winning a total of $111,9...

head toss

Um, not sure how to take your bit about "he must be an abused race horse and is ruined for life" comment, but I never said he was abused OR was ruined for life. In fact I think I said he was a good boy and would even do a slow trot. I am just wondering why he throws his head and is that a TB thing. ...

His teeth are fine. I did have them checked, and I ride him in a hackamore anyway. He only does it after he takes about three strides into his canter. I wonder if he wants to go faster? I try to keep him slow.

PLEASE HELP! Why does he do that?

I have always had QH's. I just purchased a TB and I have no idea why he does some of the things he does. He was raced for the first five years of his life, then fox hunted and steeple chased. He is a very sweet boy and actually quite calm, however, he throws his head at a canter and constantly chews...
