Pony looking for a home.
I sold a pony mare about a year ago and recently the people who had bought her asked me to pick her up since they could not feed her anymore. She is suitable for a 12 to 14 year old rider. She is broke. She is looking for a home. At this time, she is slightly underweight, not graphically underweight...

Hi, everybody.
Hey, everybody. I haven't been around lately. Hubby is monopolizing the puter to complete research papers while working on his master's degree and I have been terribly busy with my new Tinner's Way colt. We call him Mischief. I've probably said that already. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi. I'm read...

Well, I missed it entirely. My brand new Tinner's Way colt had to be turned out with mom and stalls cleaned, etc. He is only about 3 days old so of course I can hardly take my eyes off him. Also, because he is magnificent. A really well put together baby. He is built like Secretariat. With regard to...

Breeder's Cup changes.
I just love what they have done to the Breeder's Cup. I really think it will improve competition in those races. The "Win and you're in challenge," and allowing horses to come in later even when their sires were not nominated, allows for any really good regional horse that has been able to race up, ...

Laurie, I have a lot of respect for Pleasant Tap. Bloodstock agents have their own way of looking at things and they sometimes just don't have any respect for a horse, no matter what his babies do. Who can say what starts some strange idea that isn't born out by the numbers? It's one of those opport...

Toccet, I feel for you. The way I handle people I can't avoid who are not family and just rub me totally the wrong way is to just satisfy myself by realizing they will have their share of troubles and annoyances in their lives, mostly brought on by their own attitude. I then go into the, "It takes a...

Ageecee, I'm with you on that one. The buyer assumes all the risk and all the financial responsibility for a horse. Now, if a breeder offered to cover the expenses of the horse for a year in exchange for my agreement to hold the animal back, I might consider that and it would give me a great deal of...

CA, Sounds like "politics" to me. "Many blood sucking parasites." As Kinky Friedman described them. But, the jury really is still out on polytrack. There is some statistical indications that it may not weather well, and may compact over time to be harder than the original dirt surfaces. On the other...

Claiming rules depend on the jurisdiction, of course, but I believe most jurisdictions have followed the old rules that if the horse drops dead after stepping foot on the sand, it's owned by the guy who claimed it. On the other hand, EPO has changed the claiming rules, at least in some jurisdictions...

Rogulet, I put "other" because I pretty much like the way this forum has been moderated all along. It happens that when I get really busy and can't come on to read or respond to posts, all the fighting and fireworks seem to break out, get moderated or resolved, then I hear later there was something ...

Sym, I can't speak for other posters. I can tell you that the reason horses get any livestock exemptions at all is because they are considered utility animals in the production of beef. There are still a few cow horses left in Texas, though not like in the cowboy days. Plus, horses are sold to forei...

I'm glad to see that everyone is sharing their thoughts on these issues. I really believe it's important that horsemen discuss things and that we know what is going on around the country in the industry. We've been looking at some of the maps of pipeline easements, rail-road easements, power line ea...

Chuck, Awesome! Glad you made the calls. I think they really do make some difference. Let's face it, people may call all the time, but I don't think they do. I know another horsemen's group in the state is trying to get safe riding paths along railroad right of ways for horses. I intend to contact t...

THIS IS SERIOUS -- Contact Your Legislator I have been worried about this issue for some time now, and it is about to happen. If this change in the property tax law takes place, many of us will be out of business, and maybe out of our homes as well. Please act. This is from the TTA Executive Directo...
