Anyone have experience with Shadynook Farm in Versailles, KY? They advertise a $17/day rate for seasonal broodmares in Blood Horse and other places and wanted to get some recommendations, good or bad.

Maltreatment and Fraudulent Charges at KY Boarding Farms

Wondering if anyone has exoerienced or had problems with maltreatment and instances of bogus billing charges from thoroughbred boarding farms in Kentucky? We have some strong evidence of this happening to a broodmare and yearling that we've boarded at a farm near Keeneland. Does the Kentucky Racing ...

DerbyTickets?

Anyone have good leads on purchasing a box of 6 for the Kentucky Derby for a fairly 'reasonable' price? Best I can find on EBay for first floor grandstands is around $3,000 for a box that is not way out at one of the extreme ends of the grandstands. Willing to pay around $2,000. Doesn't have to incl...

Not to bag on the Ramseys, because their $7,377 average is impressive, but a cursory look at the breeders' rankings show that a number of other breeders more than double their $ per start: Phipps Stable $22,833 (81 starts) Margaux Farms $20,829 (93 starts) Clovelly $17,824 (83 starts) Mary Lou Whitn...

Really bad math here. The numbers by Someday Farms is correct, but the rest are mistakenly inflated by a factor of 10! Certainly nothing to sneeze at, but the $7,377 per start for the Ramseys is much closer to Earth, which as an owner, I am quite thankful! According to http://www.equineline.com, the...

Horse Farm Questions

We are looking at a horse farm in Paris, KY (Central Kentucky) and wondered whether anyone had a general estimate of what good 4-panel wood fencing costs (installed) as well as what to expect to install automatic waterers into some of the fields? There is a water hydrant within about 100-200 feet of...

How to Interpret 8 Generation Co-Efficient of Inbreeding

Wondering how to best assess the 8 generation co-efficient of inbreeding statistics? I've sometimes heard that the best thing to see is a fairly high number on a pedigree with no close inbreeding on the pedigree, but have yet to fully understand how to best use the numbers.

Any guidance?

Most of those listed on this thread and the previous one are new stallions. I think if we're talking about yet unproven, we should be looking at those that are starting to come around or showing their stuff. What do folks think about Mutakddim, Arch, and Petionville? They are producing some decent r...

Alan Shuback has a great section on 'European Racing' in the handicapping book "Bet With The Best" published by the Daily Racing Form. It's from a handicapping perspective but he breaks down all the races in Europe (no South America, unfortunately) and categorizes them within stakes class. Excellent...

HELP -- Texas Fasig-Tipton Sale on Sunday

This is last minute, but a couple of barren broodmares are of interest to me that are being offered at the Fasig-Tipton Texas sale which should sell cheap (similar quality last year went for $1-$3 k), compared to what I'd pay for them here in KY. Anyone have an agent and/or vet that might be availab...

Close Inbreeding -- Mr. P, Woodman, Seattle Slew

Among the several dozen weanlings I'm looking at from the upcoming Keenland sale, a few have some particularly close inbreeding. I wondered if anyone has had any experience with any 3x3 to Mr. Prospector, as well as 3x3 to Seattle Slew. Also, one was 2x3 to Woodman. I really like these horses, but c...
