"One of the reasons I posted was to point out; here's a guy who led in stable earnings and is now filing Chapter 11. You can't argue his success- he was leading owner in earnings yet his racing operation is bankrupt. I think that speaks volumes about this game.." I think it speaks volumes about Zaya...

That's the way I remember it, 31. 9,10 and older horses were common. I don't think horses are much faster today though. Maybe it seems so because most cards are sprint heavy.

"What about arthroscopic surgery, IRAP, stem cell? " Don't these procedures repair problems? Do you seriously want to add them to the mix? I don't think I ever claimed that the "good old days" were strictly the hay, oats and water days. Certainly they weren't the "keep them on the racetrack whatever...

One barrel girl that I know personally just retired her good horse, pasture sound only now. He's eleven. You'll have to support your assertion that the good old days never existed, Sysonby. It isn't enough to just say it. I was around in the sort of good old days, before joint injections were used, ...

It's just what some horses want to do, Toccet. Not desirable to the pony person, but sometimes it's hard to prevent. As for dallying a racehorse to the horn, Madelyn, maybe in the morning, but Toccet is talking about racedays. If you've seen someone run their pony strap through the horse's bit, and ...

To add to Sysonby's finding that sporthorse people medicate, so do barrel people, reining people, and probably every other competitive horse person. One of the track vets here makes $10,000 in a weekend when he has one of his barrel girl haul in's.

Two wrongs still don't make a right.

Horse, Big H, junk, mud, smack.......to name just a few slang terms for heroin. I've heard the claim before that horse for heroin is derived from drugging horses, but I find it hard to believe. Maybe someone can find confirmation somewhere that street junkies found out that racehorse trainers used h...

Did he bow, or was it said that he bowed? Get a solid diagnosis, if you haven't already, and then decide.

Your 6 year old niece needs a plug for her first horse, not a young Thoroughbred. She'll be more likely to enjoy horses if she doesn't get terrorized right off the bat.

Certainly don't think working in 48 flat is everyday routine for letting her down!

Are you talking about a TB mare, Laurie? I'm tempted to breed for a warmblood baby to sell this year. Do you know how that market is faring?

Take him somewhere to be broke to ride, before he's completely ruined. He should not be on the main track at all, in his current frame of mind.

And everyone in the class gets an A. And the little kid's baseball team doesn't keep a score. Our new world.

One winner of HOY, or the award becomes entirely meaningless. The choice is very tough this year, but that doesn't excuse not making it.

"People (not necessarily the "Doug's" of the world) are the problem in all sports where animals are a commodity.
If everyone had the same goals and standards, it would be a better world."

I agree, perfect.

"I have to tell you Tiz that the above is unwarranted and unjustified. You sound like a PETA activist." You know something, Shammy? You have no idea what you're talking about. I have had a front row seat for this and have seen the revolving door up close. Do not preach on a subject that you don't kn...
