Brindles

There was a picture of the Arabian filly Rossletta that I've never seen before. Thank you for that! Rossletta was a full sister to a stallion who made a huge mark upon the Arabian breed. Due to her odd color, the registry pulled her papers so she was never able to produce a registerable purebred foa...

Who was it for you?

I was horse crazy before I ever saw a race--C.W. Anderson's books helped to fuel it and many other authors as well. A few things hooked me on racing. A horse owned by someone here in Washington State, Terlago, was all over the papers prior to running in the Derby. I think that Derby was actually won...

There was mention of the filly Smart Sugar in one of the Blood Horse blogs a few weeks ago. Her female line is the same as produced Alydar, Our Mims, etc., so I'm watching for news of what she does.

It was mentioned on NPR this morning that today, June 9, was 35 years since Secretariat's Belmont win. What a great way to celebrate it! What a grand horse he was..........

BC, a depressing retirement party

I am hoping that Curlin returns next season as well. Unfortunately there will be a lot of time for minds to be changed before the 2008 races. I was just wondering how many of the old handicap races are still around that the old distance runners of yore participated in. Or even the shorter handicap r...

E.R. Bradley

I was checking out the transcript from the Blood Horse 'Talkin' Horses' session with Mahubah. She mentioned thoughts of a biography on E.R. Bradley....... Please do it!! There is a book on the Kentucky Derby that I all but lived on for YEARS and the chapter on 'Bradley's Busy B's' was one of the best.

General Patton's airlift of Euro mares

I have to correct myself a bit--the Remounts were mostly dispersed by early 1949. Thoroughbreds were definately part of the equine group imported after WW II.

The Fort Reno, OK, Remount Depot was perhaps the last one operating as the dispersal concluded.

General Patton's airlift of Euro mares

I know that when General Patton liberated the fabled Lippizan horses, many other breeds were at that farm as well. Certainly a group of Arabian horses were brought to the US and stationed at the US Calvary Remount Depot. Thoroughbreds were also prized for remount purposes and it wouldn't surprise me...
