Advice

Hi Guys wanting some advice. One of my foals this year, appears to be small to me. He is the first foal, and I measured him today, he stands 13hh tall. He was foaled in May, and as such was the last to be born (of a crop of 5). Does anyone know roughly how big should foals be at about 5mths of age? ...

Hello No no I am not Godolphin, although one can only wish! My mare is out of a full sister to the dam of Getaway, Guadalupe etc. So genetically is a half sister to him. But it's a good boast to the pedigree, and this time last year it was Alexander Goldrun showing the greatness of this family. My m...

Yes I was very glad to see Getaway run a fantastic race, however, I did hope he was third! I own a half sister to this horse, so looking forward to seeing him next year!

Transporting mares after 30 days is usually fine. Most thoroughbreds are well travelled and don't get too stressed. As for the mare that ran in the grand national, it is well known that pregnancy can often increase stamina, and this is widely practice (not that it is something necessarily I would do...

I don't know if mares have to be of great quality themselves. Just I like mares that are by proven broodmare sires, and from good families. What I've done is tapped in to some very good families, with proven mares, but also tapped into very families with young maidens just off the track. It's good w...

I too breed to produce stakes winners. I only have a few of broodmares, but again they are the best I can afford. One is dam of an American Gr.2 winner and second in a Gr.1, whose yearling filly made $130,000. One of my other mare, her cousin made $1.5 million last year who was brought by Godolphin,...

Hi

I don't quite know what paddle out is.
A movement where the horse is swinging its legs round from the knee is called dishing and is a waste of energy and unsightly but not harmful.

He's 16.1 hh.

It's good that you're breeding to race. I saw Best of the Bests at Darley's Stallion Parade. He's a nice horse, however he does dish a bit on his front legs, and so does some of his offspring, might be a problem if you're trying to sell. Apart from that he's a nice horse. Good luck.

Just for all your information, the German 2,000 Guineas, a classic race, is only a Gr.2, and has never been a Gr.1. That said, I can't think that any classic that is already a Gr.1, will ever be downgraded. And to be fair, this year may just be an off year, and cannot base downgrading on this one ye...

Jordan I don't mean to be rude, but there would be no point to breed them together. You need to breed to good stallions, not a stallion that has won a mere one or two little races. When we the English were breeding the thoroughbred some 300 yrs ago, only the best arbaian and turk stallions were impo...

Hi all Well i started in breeding when I was 14 (im now 19). I had to start at the bottom. I bought a mare when I was 14 at the sales (cost me very little) but I liked her and she a nice enough pedigree, well at least for what I could afford. I put her in foal, and her first foal she produced for me...

Dubai Sheema Classic.... Good luck Alexander Goldrun

Well today's the Dubai World Cup card. Alexander Goldrun, who's a 4 time Gr.1 winner in 4 countries, in 3 contients, bids for her fifth Gr.1 success. She's racing in the Dubai Sheema Classic. I'm hoping she wins as I own her cousin, who's off a stud, and just been covered by 2,000 Guineas winner Gol...

Yes I was about to mention Danehill, Orpen etc. Alexander Goldrun, who has won 4 Gr.1 races in four countries, in 3 contients, is by Gold Away. Gold Away's sire, Goldneyev, is out of the mare, Gold River. Alexander Goldrun's 4th dam, Gracious is half sister to Gold River. So this seems to have worke...
