I liked him alot and he was a steal at his old fee. I think he may have gone a little too high at $35K. His auction results can be inconsistent at times. I would have bred to him this year at the old price. Are you sending a mare to him? Good Luck to you. JT

A very good but underappreciated sire. He can produce you a real good racehorse but will not wow them at the sales. I think he is one of the better deals out there breeding to race. He might be apppreciated at the sales one day. Good luck to you.

I was hoping Jerry would handle some mares for me because I knew he would do right. I got into a bad situation at one breeding farm but have found a VERY good one now that also looks at my bottomline. There are very few extras on her bills and the mares are taken very good care of so far. I recently...

That is what really hurt! I know the real cost of the medication. I would not have authorized any of the extras if consulted.

Good Luck to everyone with your stallion choices.....

Unfortunately, we small breeders are all going to need to make very wise decisions going forward in this business. At the just completed KeeJan sale 50% of yearlings did not make the stud fee and 32% of mares did not make the stud fee of the stallion they were bred to according to Bill O. This only ...

Value?

You asked so I will give you my humble opinion. Of those stallions, none give the breeder true value and a good chance to make money on the foal. Breeding horses is a terrible investment and really is a labor of love. If you double the stud fee and add $15K that is a guide of what the foal would nee...

Best Buys of the Keeneland Sale

Going through the sales results I always find some horses that on paper look like great buys. My best buy of the sale is hip #3101. She is by Old Trieste and out of Epitome dam of Essence of Dubai and another stakes winner. Epitome also had a highweight horse in Dubai. Epitome herself was a champion...

Japanese racing???

Do they breed their own or import alot of their racehorses. What are the opportunities in Japan for United States bred horses? My filly just sold to Japanese interests. Thanks for any info. JT

The trainer could call and see if he can get two this year since the mare aborted last year. Some farms might allow it but I think it is a breeding right and there is no guarantee of a live foal. Good luck. I would at least call and ask. The worst they can say is "no".

Madelyn- I was fortunate that River's Prayer out of Cozzy sold for $1.5 million at Keeneland. The other mare has a graded stakes placed filly and is a half to Mr Greeley. Hopefully, they will justify Awesome Again and El Prado.

I like Silent Name also. How do you think he will be received at the all important sales? Who is Express to Boston in foal to now? The Street Cry will help her at the track in a few years. I have Cozzy Flyer going to Awesome Again, Brightbraveandgood to El Prado, and I purchased a mare I would appre...

Is it proven breeding a two year old results in an inferior or damaged foal? Is it proven they are less durable? I can't say that I have seen that as a result nor can I find articles to support that. I am not advocating breeding a two year old to everyone. I admit I would have been concerned foaling...
