stallions under 15000

Postby tbrace » Sat Dec 18, 2004 3:35 pm

We have discussed Black Minaloushe in this thread. What do you think about the effect that being mainly a grass runner has on horses like him, Decarchy, etc., as far as market appeal goes? Can they overcome the grass bias?

hi tbrace

It's not just the turf "bias"...it's also what the horse looks like physically...

...I seems to me that Black Minalouche could be a very tough sell.

Black Minnaloushe has yearlings going through the sale series starting January. I'm interested to look now.

Two of the stallions I liked in this price range were High Yield and Champali.

High Yields stud fee has dropped to $15000. Does anyone know of a problem. His yearlings seemed to sell in Sept.

Champali was a tough racehorse. Does he have enough breeding to be commercial?

High Yields 2 year olds haven't shown much. Any first year dirt horse could be commercial his first year.

Any opinions on this horse's future as a sire and as a sale sire?

FOS, why do you think Black Minnaloushe will be a tough sell? He's had some babies sell ok so far. Do you think that he'll go completely under?

Monashee Mountain Revisited

Postby Kim » Thu Dec 23, 2004 2:53 pm

I just reread some old messages about Monashee Mountain and am curious not only for additional opinions on him, but I'm also curious why the people who panned him so severely in a prior thread feel that he's such a disgrace as a stallion. Also, is there anyone out there in addition to George who thinks well of the horse? In his photo he looks attractive and he's produced some SWs in his first crop along with a fair number of winners. He's a half to Mineshaft. Surely being by Danzig isn't too bad, is it? Comments?

I love Northern Afleet at $12,500. I already have one mare booked to him and hope to have two more booked shortly. At 12,500 he is one of the best values in the country. For those of you who haven't read my posts before, I have a privately devised system that evaluates the racing potential of all of a stallion's progeny not simply a few or worst case one big horse. Northern Afleet comes up with the highest score of any horse under 75K and the mares he has been bred to have been very average, at best. When his new crops run after being moved to Ky, I think this stallion will explode onto the scene. This stallion could be as good as any stallion standing anywhere. He gets great turf horses also--probably the best turf stallion in the US.
best regards Brendan

Hi Kim,

Being by Danzig is as good as it gets for a stallion prospect and the damline on Monashee Mountain couldn't be much better either. The only possible reason why someone could be down on him is that his yearlings didn't sell so expensivly in England relative to his good looks.
