I am so sick of snow!

I remember living up in the frozen tundra (aka Wisconsin) as a kid. Yeah, the wind chills will get to you...I recall sitting in the house and listening to the wind howl, blowing the snow into fantastic drifts. My parents hated it...always shoveling (Dad wasn't keen on snow blowers...go figure...he was old school!)

I didn't mind the snow this winter horse-wise—I had set up our round pen in hopes of starting some early-season groundwork and bought a bareback pad so I could bundle up and go tooling around the pasture. But we had a Jan. thaw and some rain, so everything turned to a sheet of ice. At least we've dodged the bitter cold spells so far. With more snow, the footing is just getting back to useable... at least until it all starts to melt and mudseason starts...
The snow pain for me is driving to work. Takes an hour ten on a normal day. Early morning snow means an hour and a half, two hours easy... that I can do without!

MUD...MUD...MUD!!!!!
Forget the snow, I WILL take the frigid cold temps at this point just to get all the mud around here to freeze at least that way I can walk without sinking & this is no joke 8-10 in in spots. You can't drive anything without destroying the ground so I have to walk to a few areas every now & then...
That heavy storm that went through half the country earlier this week hit us in our llittle part of Southern Ohio so hard, so fast we could not get to a road that wasn't under so much water you get through...trapped with no way to get out...we had close to 7 acres under water for a day and half, some parts were 12-18 deep.
Makes you wonder what spring is going to be like...maybe this is a modified version of our spring this year. If it continues can you imagine the impact on hay again?

Right now I'm looking out at blowing snow, with a wind chill of 14F and both temps and wind chills expected to drop drastically during the day. It's a pain in the neck, but I'll just curl up with a good book and enjoy being safe and warm.
I'll also think about no giant cockroaches, no killer bees or fire ants, no tornados, hurricanes or earthquakes. Oh yeh, I'll take a few months of cold and snow in exchange for none of the above.

I should feel lucky that it is only 1* out (-15 windchill) after reading some of them posts.I really feel for you Shanova, I hate the mud. The cold you can turn up the heat and put on more blankets. Theres no way around the mud. I am not looking forward to this spring. But heck I'll take the mud over -45. Thats just insane. I thought I was silly for staying here where its cold. I am going south, so anyone looking for a farm in SE Michigan it will be up for sale this spring. Nice 14 stall barn with indoor arena, wood fenced pastures on 24 acres.

NY you're still warmer than I am and I am 30 minutes south of you!! It has been mini blizzarding here all day and I have 2 mares that are shipping in from the south that are going to foal soon (yes, the owner is calling it close!--he got the breeding dates confused)..thank goodness the foaling stalls are heavily bedded and tomorrow is supposed to be alittle warmer. Last I looked it was -21 windchill and a whole 5 above.brrrrrrrr
The stallions have their blankets on and said forget about breeding season until its warm

Thanks but I am all set. The foaling barn will be cozy warm for the mares and foals, just wish he would have gotten them here last week when it was at least mildly warm. I was on the tractor today with so many layers on I could hardly move and still cold..that doesnt happen too often. At one point I couldnt find the road from the drive and was worried I was going to put the tractor in the ditch. I dont mind cold, its the dang wind
