AAAHHHH!! I talked to Dave today...digital xrays & ultrasound show he has nothing broken...but has a bowed tendon. Not the worst bow ..but still has torn suspensory fibers....he is doing shock wave therapy...& I told him about Runners Relief. It will be a year before an attempt at a comeback.

I watched the video over & over & still say the gate crew held his head up & sideways & should not have let the gate open that way...he bounded out...he is a fast breaker...& lunged sideways hitting the gate & putting all his weight on his right foot as it over extended as he pushed off on it....he has tons of heart & tried to run on it finally going off stride on the turn for home

Its always something!!

Yes I bred & raised & own Flamefinder..he runs just like I showed him!!!
We have a 7 week old full sister Im excited about

But Im a huge Scrappy Roo fan too..even though he nudged past us by a neck in Feb & beat us by 3 in the Tomball Stakes. I was looking forward to running against him 1 more time..Dave invited me up to the Silks room before the race & we had lunch...we were talking about having a dead heat for first!! I think thats why Flame shot out 4 ahead early in 1 & 1/8 race ..we thought Scrappy would be stalking us early & pressing the pace
I hope he is one of the ones that come back...he has the heart to do it

BillB, thanks for the update on Scrappy Roo and also the discussion on Flamefinder and his new sister. I know that Texas racing is having its problems, but the sporting spirit that you discuss and the fact that to many of us these horses are family -- we breed them, raise them, and race them -- is what will keep it alive.

Any of you out there been able to make it to one of the regional meetings? I would love a first hand report.

Thanks for noticing that Roger. I was hesitant to post the news, since I feared it was too self serving. It is also note worthy that two nice Uncle Abbie runners have been claimed recently, Hermighty by John Locke and Uncle Rose by the Asmussens. Locke ran Hermighty back fast, and picked up a good second.

Since I am already shamelessly promoting here in this post, I will mention that Champagne Ridge, a two year old Sand Ridge filly I bred, had her first official work at Lone Star last week. I have a yearling full brother to her, Cypress Creek, so I hope she runs well. At least she is at the track and has a chance at being a racehorse.

Noticed that Charley's Spartan's Legend worked last week. Maybe he will have a race soon. If you see Charley, tell him to sign on here.

Attended the North Central meeting last night. Quite a turn out, about 85 people and 75% of the crowd was Quarter Horse or Performance horse people. The Bill being written includes all breeds and according to our president Jackie Rich we are in a love fest with the Quarter Horse people. Honest opinion, probably the best plan put forward to get the slot initiative passed. Being proposed as an agricultural bill that will help all breeds, back stretch workers, performance horse retirement programs, etc. It is great for purses. My opinion, great for everything but the Texas Thoroughbred. We continue to want to address racetracks, purses, owners, and other state breeding programs. If they would shore up that major hole, and put some teeth into what could be a real agricultural and economic boon to Texas if passed, we would be fully on the right track. With out some provisions directed at breed development if passed it will only be a shell game for the in state breeding program. The other breeds I am sure will benefit and help to support the overall initiative. A lot of positive with one huge negative.

Oh, and plan B- it will be whipped together in no time if this fails. It is right over there on the back burner.

Thanks for the meeting report. I would love to hear from others. I agree that this bill is our best effort so far. Of course, much needs to happen between now and then. We need to have some friends elected in November, and then really do a good job of lobbying despite what we know will be strong opposition. All TTA members, and the other horse groups need to actually get active during the next legislative session.

It is no secret that I too think we have some issues that we need to address beyond this bill. Yet, for the moment, it is perhaps best not to disrupt the untity effort. Just my opinion.

Congratulations to John Gilpin whose Uncle Abbie filly, Monica's Skirmish won the MSW last night at Lone Star.

Gilespie opened yesterday with 2,968 in attendance and they had a $189,396 handle. That is pretty close to what LS averages on week nights. If we only had 20 or 30 of these going throughout the year. We need a few more Class II's running too.

Thanks for the report Roger. That is a very good number. They keep talking about promoting the county fair circuit, which if you remember is something that we talked about "way back when." There is a legislative committee meeting this coming week, at which they will discuss some of our issues, but somehow I doubt that will be high on the list. I believe that Dave will be there to represent the TTA. Citizens can attend and sign up to testify, but unfortunately I have to work for a living and will not be able to go. Hope that some of you out there can make it.

Big congrats to all the connections who ran well in all the stakes races at Lone Star yesterday. Wished I could have been there to see Wrenice and Gold Coyote and it looks like Early Flyer is going to give Valid Expectations a run for his money in the speed game.

Hi Guys,

I am not from Texas but race most of my horses in the state. Without going into a lot of detail at the moment one of my horses has gone missing. The last message is she was left at 2 Eagles Farm in Lytle or Lytel, Tx. The farm has a new name but I wasn't given that information.
Has anyone heard of this farm. If you have please help me find my filly.

Thanks

I was glad to read in the other thread that Jim P found his missing horse. Yet, the story bothers me a lot. I think that this trainer needs to answer for this -- misrepresentation of services, working a horse under false pretenses -- etc. What would be the appropriate remedy for this travesty? Just curious what others think.

I am hoping Jim will contact the stewards at Lone Star and explain the situation about his filly and the false work. I have great hopes that they will not take the situation lightly and investigate this loathsome critter who calls him or herself a trainer and revoke their license.

If Jim was wiring money or sending checks from KS to TX, could he prosecute for federal wire fraud or postal fraud? Sorry, anybody who would try to dupe someone for so long deserves a long spell in a quiet place to consider their actions, IMO.
