Wooden Phone rides again

Postby Heidilady » Sat Jan 22, 2005 10:24 pm

I had forgotten all about my DRF Watch Mail on certain horses..I mean it's been a few years now that Wooden Phone beat Tiznow but for some reason I get an email telling me that he's funning in a 6F allowance/optional claiming race at the Fairgrounds. Thought someone somewhere might be interested although I gotta admit, I probably wouldn't have noticed without this email. I don't even remember putting the horse on a watch list at all. Oh well, I hope the ol' boy gets treated like he deserves and isn't in a bad state. Good luck fella.

(I should mention that he's up for the $40,000 claiming tag it would appear)

I like this guy, so when I started getting works for him I got pretty excited. And I was glad I didn't take him out of my stablemail--
he hasn't raced since Aug. 18 of 2003.

His record is 18(5-3-3) $833,236.

Unfortunately he didn't finish the race. The notes said he "trailed early and was pulled up lame."

I really hope they just let him go. He'd make someone a nice horse I'm sure. I mean c'mon he raced against Tiznow and most of his rivals are undoubtedly retired already. Are they still trying to prove his win wasn't a fluke?

And just to add another horse from the Watch List, Buckle Down Ben ran, and was an also-ran, in a lower level race as well about a week or two ago. Poor guy. I know some horses have to run at that level b/c they aren't all stakes horse caliber but geez some of them don't need to be tormented anymore. Let the poor guy rest. He's done enough. If they'd like to put Smarty Jones back in training though, well there's a horse who could rock the world and only did a fraction of what he could've.

Letting Smarty and Point Given go and making Wooden Phone and Buckle Down Ben keep going. Where's the justice? :( It's not like they're the next Seabiscuit for heaven's sake. Enough is enough. Heaven help us all if either of them ends up in the you-know-what auction because they finally did get retired but that person wasn't all on the up and up. Happens daily. Sorry to rant but sometimes this just bugs me. At least Zippy Chippy gets to stand around and munch grass. There's one who earned it.

Anyone got any information on Wooden Phone's status after the race?

There's a short article in the 1/27 edition of TDN (sorry it won't copy and paste.) It says that Wooden Phone rebowed a tendon shortly after the start of the race and that he has been retired.
