BridledObsession wrote:We finally got confirmation on our mare. She was the most recent one euthanized. The description of her conditon is horrifying. Amazing really what she managed to do to a beautiful, healthy mare in 3 months time. They offered to send me a picture, but I declined. I don't want to remember her that way or dwell on her suffering any more than I already am.

Obviously, we're going to cooperate fully with the investigation. Thankfully, I had taken pictures of her right before she left and saved most of our correspondence.

We're grateful to the SPCA -- I'm sure they did everything they could once they rescued her. She was just too far gone at that point.

It's still unbelievable to me.

If this is the horse I think it is would you please update the COTH forum as well? I know many people were worried about your mare and would like to know what happened even though this isn't the update we were hoping for. I am so sorry, please don't blame yourself, it could have happened to any of us. Almost happened to me.

Bridled - I am SO sorry for your loss :( :( :( Your poor mare ... It is so hard to comprehend what goes on in some peoples minds. Stories like this are so disturbing to me I often ignore them because otherwise I find them too overwhelming.

To all the horses that have suffered and died RIP :(

Oh BridledObsession I am so sorry for your loss. I have not been following these threads at all. Kind of an out of sight out of mind thing. I understand your pain and the confusion that comes with it. Hopefully your girl has team up with Kissy and Mr.T and they are racing each other through the greenest of pastures.
Always bet on the grey!!

Bridled, your loss exposes the worst in humanity. How someone would choose to starve an innocent animal rather than seek assistance shows how little some differ from Hitler or a Jackal.

I'm sorry to hear your sad update as well, Bridled Obsession. I thought that no news from the SPCA in your case would be bad news. Have they identified all of the others who were euthanized, or are their owners still waiting to hear?

I hope the boarders get together and file a civil suit for fraud, damage and loss of property and everything else you can throw at this farm. Don't rely on the criminal justice system to do right by you and your horses. The civil system can through punitive damages on top of your actual losses and make sure they never ever set foot back in the business.

Again, I am so sorry for your loss, but at least you know your girl is not suffering any longer :(

I am so sorry for your loss. It's a horrible feeling to think your horse is in a good situation only to find out it wasn't. I hope you get some kind of redemption even though your loss can never be recovered fully.

I really appreciate everyone's kind words, thoughts and prayers. We were away for the weekend and had really been looking forward to it -- but we ended up spending alot of our time thinking about her and wishing we could turn back time.

We've discussed a civil case -- if for no other reason that to help drive home the point to her and others like her that this kind of behavior is unacceptable. It will never bring real justice or take away the suffering, pain and fear she must have felt, but's it's something.

I'll update the COTH forum today.

Thanks again.........

bridled...I would be trying to be the first to get dear old mom into court. She is listed as the owner of the land and it appears has been the enabler of her daughter's crimes. That's where I would start.

BridledObsession,

Aardvark nailed it.

By many accounts, the mother and Gerry have been involved in horses together every step of the way, going back years. They attended the sales together. At the Feb. 2006 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale, Gerry's mother was purchasing mares for Gerry under the mother's name.

One way to look at it is that the mother has assets. Gerry has none. So who better to use as cannon fodder?

It will be interesting to see who Trupia has around her for a support group at her arraignment on Wednesday as she tries to peddle the concept of her innocence.
