Great hay day
Was able to buy 3rd cutting alfalfa with some grass from a farmer not 6 miles from my place today. Nice heavy bales. Only $4/bale
AND, he has about 14000 bales available, so I don't have to buy it all at once.

Any day that you can secure good hay at a good price is a great day!
Glad to hear that you were able to buy locally; there is nothing worse than having to rely on hay shipped across the country. Bad for the budget, bad for the environment, and bad for the horses.
Enjoy!

$4 a bale???!!!
I pay $8 and nice heavy bale is about 60#.
And I am not sure about the hen/tick connection...... I think I found double the ticks since my neighbor bought those things over a year ago. Supposedly they were supposed to stay relatively close to their coop. NOT... they are all over the place up the road down the road and it seems everytime I need to sleep they are out by my window making that weird little sqawk they do. I am not a fan of the guineas after being exposed to them. We bought into the whole they are a great natural bug eliminator. No they are great at picking at poop for grain/corn morsels.

My experience with guineas goes back 10 years. While they do roam,
I haven't seen more than 2-3 ticks in the last 7-8 years, they killed or pushed out copperheads that were in the woods at the ends of our property, keep the rat/mouse population down, and attack any stray dog that dares come into their area. It is amazing to watch them surround
an unwelcome visitor and just keep flogging it until it is gone. Except for the noise, I rate them highly. They are also much cleaner than chickens and ducks.

I'll meet you on the other side.
$4 a bale...holy cow. That is what construction hay goes for here!!
I pay from $7.50 to $10.00 a bale for a square, lightweight bale of mostly orchard grass with a dab of timothy or alfalfa but usually straight up orchard grass. They have the twine not the metal and you can pick up about 4 bales and not fall over!!!
Good deal on your hay buy!!
