Thoughts on this mare by Lord Avie

Postby foothillsequine » Tue Dec 09, 2008 4:56 pm

Shining Forever. She is by Lord Avie and out of A Shaky Queen. At 9 years old, and after 73 starts she retired from the track this year (bowed tendon I believe).

Any thoughts on her as a broodmare prospect?

I followed this mare's progress on the NYRA and Finger Lakes circuits for many years. She was a sound, hard-knocking type, and definitely had a little class. Broke her maiden in special weight company at Belmont, won her first level allowance (vs NY breds) at Aqueduct. Her dam, A Shaky Queen, was a heckuva nice runner on the NYRA circuit, too. Shining Forever is probably not the world's most commercial mare, but for a regional market or a breed-to-race operation, she's definitely worth a shot.

Yes, I like her on paper as well. Have you seen her in person? If so, what did you think of her conformation?

I would be using her for breeding to race. I think the Northwest can use some "new" blood

Thanks all for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate it.

Sorry I have not seen her in person....I have adopted from FLTAP before and am quite pleased with the 2 that I have gotten from them...Have been told that she is a big mare...And I dont think there is a question as to her soundness...She waited until she was 9 to develop that bow...Call and talk with Carly at FLTAP...she can answer any questions..If you do get her, I wish you the best of luck...... :D g

She's mine and will be shipping across the country on January 5th! I am currently researching stud prospects for her. Suggestions from all you experts out there will be appreciated!

Sounds like you are looking for a west coast stud since you are shipping to Oregon-right?

I like Western Fame for this mare. He stands at Applebite Farms in Northern Ca. He's a sire who can get a high class fast horse and he will provide you with wonderful linebreeding to the great mare Somethingroyal, dam of Secretariat and Sir Gaylord..

Have you looked at Capsized in California? He was a nice, versatile runner, and durable, too. And he has Secretariat in his pedigree, which gives you some interesting inbreeding via your mare's female family.

I will, and thanks again g. BB, I have not looked at Capsized, but I will check him out as well. I do have some time to figure out who she should go to, apparently it takes a week to get here, and then I will have to put her under lights.
