Ocala TB Farms/Stallions: Must Sees

Postby ZiaLand » Thu Feb 24, 2005 1:05 pm

I may be going to Orlando on business in mid-June and I'd like to visit a few TB farms in the Ocala area while I'm there. Can anyone make some suggestions of the "must see" farms and/or stallions in this area?

Much thanks,
Laurie

hi ZiaLand

How about theses for starters ?

For beauty...Adena Springs...fresh and up-to-date facility...(home of Red Bullet, Macho Uno etc).

Padua...lovely...fresh also...(home of Dance Master, Exchange Rate, Delaware Township etc...former home of Yes It's True).

Workmanlike and attractive...Hartley/DeRenzo...(home of Omega Code, Essence of Dubai, Full Mandate etc...former home of Successful Appeal)

Signature Stallions...beautiful stallion barn...(home of Unbridled Time, Texas Glitter, Mongoose etc).

Cloverleaf...large and beautiful property...(home of Flame Thrower, Snuck In, Repent etc).

Bridlewood...very large...showing age...(home of Halo's Image etc...former home of Stormy Atlantic).

Ocala Stud...old and tired...but historic...most-likely future development property...(home of Montbrook, Outofthebox etc).

Live Oak...expansive beautiful property with loads of (as you might have guessed) live oaks...thoroughbreds and cattle...(home of Eltish, Anasheed, etc)

Roberts Quarterhorses...interesting structures and statues of horses in action...spectacular entrances and gates. Former thoroughbred facility.

Best to you.

Respectfully

I only saw Padua, Ocala Stud and Bridlewood. Padua was incredibly beautiful. No expense spared.
Ocala-old and historic.
Bridlewood-I thought was very nice. Just a cut below Padua.

Lou-Roe Farm is a bit off the beaten path but well worth a visit just for the handsome Mediterranean-style architecture, especially the stallion barns; they also have a nice lineup of young stallions though no big names as yet. They're one of the easiest farms to make arrangements with as they have regular viewing hours from 1-4pm daily; just call ahead to be sure they know you're coming.

Hope you get to visit the farms! CloverLeaf Farms now has their web site up. www.cloverleaffarms2.com

If you get there be sure to give my mare a pet from me as I am in Texas and I only get to see her when I fly in for a visit.

I was at Adena a month ago and it is really beautiful. There was a lot going on there--nice stallions, new babies, and a bustling training facility preparing 2 year olds for sale. The farm is 7,000 acres--I had no idea just how big 7,000 acres really was until I saw it in person! They left a lot of natural areas on the property and there are wild turkeys, deer, hawks/eagles, and some very rare monkey squirrels running around. Very beautiful farm, I must say.

Sandi, by monkey squirrels do you mean those great big fox squirrels? We have them by the dozens around here. They are really neat looking. Very large, with their black masks, very neat animals.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I'll try to hit as many of your suggested stops as I can make time for (including Roberts, being a former running QH breeder. Thanks for mentioning it, FOS).

Blewin, if I get to Cloverleaf, I'll be sure to give your mare an ear scratch. :D Gotta keep an eye out for Sandi's monkey squirrels at Adena Springs, too. (I don't have a trade magazine handy at the moment, but isn't Adena the home of Awesome Again?)
