well i have some new outlooks due to recent experiences.

The old Qh i own Mickey who is 31 has passed. Unfortuneatly not a peaceful experience. Poor Mickey slipped on a slope in the woods sliding down and getting cast amonst 3 trees.
We cut one away and were able to bring him lower on the slope. Unfortuately he wasnt able to rise and was put down. His time had come.
He was my 1st horse i owned and bought at the age of 14. He earned a great life here. He called for me to come save him is how i found him when i noticed him not at breakfast yesterday.

Unfortunately i wasnt able to keep him here to bury him due to the temperatures. I promised him that.

So why are people sending their horses to auctions for sale or possible slaughter? When you have to pay 250-300 to have them put down and then over 100 dollars its hard to not want to get money out of them.

Me .. i paid the money to put him to rest. I had to end his suffering asap.

I guess some people can t bear the pain of watching all of the ending. So they choose to send them off and think all is going to be fine. Someone will buy them and whatever.

So no more worries about the OSPCA coming to see a horse who was living out his life to the end even if he was skinny.

Mickey spent the better part of his life taking care of me, and i gave him back that respect he gave me. I loved him dearly and will miss him with all my heart. Im just glad to know i did my best for him.

RIP mickey

Kirsten,

My deepsest condolences to you. I can't imagine all that you must be feeling now, but I want to extend my personal gratitude for taking care of Mickey for all of your time together and for being there for him at the end of his stay here on earth. The $400 or so dollars it takes to give a horse its final respects can be replaced...the respect Mickey earned and all he shared with you in life is priceless, as you so clearly believed.

Kirsten, you have my utmost condolences about Mickey. You also have my highest respect for doing the right thing for your horse. I understand there are people who would rather get the $400.00 from than pay it, and I am sure there are people who send their horses off to auction because they can't bear the ending. Seems to me that we'd pay whatever $ for food, blankets, shelter, medicines etc...it would be nice to think we would be willing pay for their dignity in passing. I am sure you will have many happy memories of you and Mickey and I hope the pain of his passing lessens before too long.
