I don't want to be one of those people that bashes Rachel. Ideally, I would have liked for Queen Z to get the HOY, and then for both of them to have undefeated season leading up tio the Breeders Cup. Of course, the only reason why Zenyatta is still in training is because she didn't win HOY. God forbid there is a TC winner this year, or she'll be robbed again.

But for as much as I would like Rachel to succeed in 2010, her tailing off certainly exhibits why Zenyatta should have been HOY. And I just wish that ONE media person who voted for Rachel would blog that he'd made a mistake. Just ONE.

They'd be nice, wouldn't it?

This seems to underscore how weak the boys were, that RA beat last year.
In my opinion, of course.
She had a great year, nonetheless, with 8 wins and multiple G1s.
But there's only one Zenyatta.
Ever.

Winning for fun from off the pace ... incredible !!
Gotta love her :)

I wouldn't compare any of the races she ran this year to last year......I can almost guarantee we will never see Zenyatta and RA meet. If you saw the race, Rachel drifted out going into the first turn, never settled into a semblence of her fluid stride as a 3YO....I think we just watched her last race. The next thing we'll hear about her is she's being sent to Curlin. TJ

Well the runner up to the Horse of the Year keeps winning and is still undefeated, I along with anyone with a brain would have said that the wrong horse got horse of the year.

Amazingly only 2009 racing is counted in the race for 2009 Horse of the Year. This year, based on 2010 racing, the voting may go differently.

Why do people have such a hard time understanding that 2009 is 2009, and 2010 will be 2010 when its done? Are people just inherently stupid about this?

This is why I find myself rooting for Mike Smith to get Zenyatta beat. Zenyatta is awesome. Her "fans" need to take the "blinkers off" - I'm borrowing that from TJ.
2009 is over, let's move on to 2010 where she's absolutely odds-on to be HOY and maybe Jerry Moss won't be such a sore loser at the awards banquet

Hi Ruaff,
Zenyatta will now win 2010 HOTY year unopposed. There's no way Rachel Alexandra will ever meet her after todays performance....it was a disgrace, and I would bet, after seeing her trying to get out into the first turn today, she will be headed for the breeding shed. TJ

There are still 8 month of racing, too early to crown the HOY already. What if Devil May Care wins the Triple Crown, or any of the oher contenders?

Hi G,
You are right about that....but right now Z is the odds on choice. The Asmussen camp is still saying RA isn't fit....she drifted into the first turn, then never switched leads till right before the wire....Jackson says she needs two or 3 more races till she is ready and that she will not be retired. Personally I think he's drinking his bath water:>) TJ

A disgrace? Really? I guess we didn't watch the same race. I saw RA get beaten by a short head in a G2. Yeah, rabid fans are tearing their hair out. Horseman are thinking, "maybe right now she's a step slower than last year but she's still a great filly."

Considering we have yet to run even the first race of the Triple Crown, you must be psychic to know that Zenyatta will win HOY "unopposed". Note to the Mosses: if you really want HOY in 2010, Z has to race outside of California. And one trip to the Apple Blossom won't do the trick--any more than it did last year.
