Heh, heh Kristen,
My horses KEPT me from divorcing for a few years. 7 years later it was the blocked leach lines he refused to do anything about that moved me back in to town without him...ugh... Amazing what we'll go through for our horses.
I love my cameras but it was her heavy breathing and restlessness that clued me in to her starting labor. I don't envy you in Ontario, it was 50* here the night I was out til 3 am. I was so wound up I was in a T shirt and my jacket was what the fetus got delivered on. Keep us updated.
Bagging UP 7 weeks early !! anyone seen this?

Whew i made it to day 300! actually working on day 303 now lol.
Had a friend whos a real experienced horse person out who probably has attended over 100 mares in foal. She said.. its ok she still has more room to go and no wax yet even though her bag looks pretty big.
forgot to mention mare has old bone chip kinda knee and doesnt move about as much as a regular horse would so less activity to decrease the edema.
2nd vet said not to worry, some mares do bag earlier and said there isnt much she can do to stop a earlier birth.Still holding my breath and threatening to get the duct tape out to tape her foal in there lol.!!

Ok this is getting to be quite a long little trip here.
Im home at the farm. Mare waxed up Monday am and started dripping milk. Now its thursday and she has consistently dripped and waxed every day since monday.
I have the video monitor on and sleeping on the couch. She is driving me and my friend( foal watch helper) crazy. How many more days can she do this!!! we made it to 320 and she is in the barn.
In my last ditch effort today im letting her out for a hour or two in the paddock. You know what will probably happen when i do let her out, down she goes and out it comes. This am i noted no wax on the nipples or dripping milk. Hasnt become slab sided yet either. I noted less movement today with the foal .. has me worried. Gonna call vet to update her on last few days and no progress

Sad end to a long haul
My mare dripped milk for 18 days and had been waxed. She gave birth to a colt May 4th and everything seemed ok. May 5th the colt was up drinking milk as i watched on my video monitor in the house.
At 630 am i went in to feed the horses and found colt down with mucous coming out his right nostril and having big problems breathing.
I tried what i could to clear the airway and help him but i was unable to do so. He passed on. Vet thnks he could have aspirated on some milk and thats why he choked or had problems.
It was very sad and little "dash" as i called him was my newest excitement in a life of turmoil. My husband and I had separated recently and my Longtime QH i owned passed away 2 months ago.
After all my battles in the last 2 years with breeding i have decided to give it up. I have this mare Cat for another year of lease but i hope i can find her someone to take her and rebreed her or keep her as a companion.
Anyone interested in her ..?? She is by Danzig Connection and her registered name is Cashmere Cat. SHe was a excellent mom although it was only for 24 hrs.
Her current owner is in Toronto and she is here near Brockville at the moment. If anyone is interested in giving her a good home for a year for breeding or companion let me know. Im sure her owner would allow extra time for someone to keep her if she needed to wean a foal again and possibly another year if you want. She does need to be kept in a small herd environment due to a bad knee but she gets around pretty good despite this.
Im moving june 1st and would like to know she can be used and loved instead of stuck at either myold farm or mynew one wherever i decide to keep her until then. I have a total of 3 horses to take care of and only 2 can come to the new place due to pasture limitations. She is a real sweetheart and loves human attention. Id keep her if i could and i would have if this situation doesnt force me to do so.
