70-year-old jockey Roy Brooks guided Priceless Feature to a head win over Texasindependencegal in the Grade 2, $247,800 Heritage Place Derby for Quarter Horses. Jimmy Brooks, Roy's son, rode the 3rd Place horse Bps Jumpin Frisco.

James "Jimmy" Brooks rode a couple of QHs for us a few years back at SHRP - almost a decade back, actually.....I thought he was amazing then to be riding at such a competitive level in middle age.

He went on to have several of his lifetime best seasons after that - I'm constantly yelling to my honey when I see on TV where Jimmy Brooks is riding - "Hey Look! Jimmy Brooks is STILL race riding!!!"
.....and in all that timeI never knew, until now that his father was still riding...

Amazing - it truly is in the genes!

Horses run in the genes too. Roy Brooks is the cousin of Jack Brooks AQHA Hall of Fame race trainer Jack Brooks who has won the All-American Futurity 8 times. Jack retired a couple of years ago at 71. Might be something in the water in Blanchard, OK.
