Question regarding G1 Goldmine for anyone who might have it.
What is the highest number you can have? Is it 24?
When you enter your horses name does it give you a list of the best stallions to breed to from highest to lowest?
Do they have all the stallions available for review or just the ones that are signed up to be in it?
CAn anyone share the pros and cons of this product.
Is it worth it for someone with 2 or 3 mares?

I use Goldmine, like it but they don't have all the stallions listed, just those that are subscribed. I've talked to them about having some sort of pay as you go for breeders that want the other stallions, or some way to access the stallions that aren't subscribed.
I have had a "26" number come up for one of the matings I plugged in, but don't know if it goes higher than that.
I only have 3 broodmares, it can be a useful tool. The guy that conceived the idea, Leo Tsatsaronis, lives in Australia and can be reached at [email protected]. He answers his emails and is very helpful. I got a "deal" on the yearly subscription fee through a conference that I went to where he spoke, and he has honored that fee for several years. So not sure whether I would pay full fare for it, but my bargain is very worth it.

You can get at least a 31. The basis is the focus on Graded sw/sp only, a different standard than black type or earnings/starter.
One down side is a multiple G1 winner scores the same as a lowly G3 sp - not exactly apples to apples.
Like many of the nicking products, any son of so and so will score equally with each other (on the sire line points). In reality though, each son can be very different.
Also, the breeder's version allows a lot of research on positions. Its a solid product, one valuable tool of many IMHO

Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.
I have Goldmine as it's a handy research tool for some things. I would agree that it's quite useful, though like all products it has limitations. One good thing is that it's not limited to sire/broodmare sire nicks; you can use it to explore the influence of male or female ancestors in various positions and combinations.
One other thing I really like is the exclusion feature that allows you to examine the influence of a horse minus that of some key son or daughter. So if you'd like to know how effective Storm Bird is in a particular cross when he doesn't appear through Storm Cat, you can exclude all appearances of Storm Bird through Storm Cat.
I also have had very good experiences from direct contact with Leo, and he's definitely open to suggestions from users as to new features they might like to see.

It might also lack depth for results of stakes of less than G1 value.
I did a pedigree search for stakes winners sired by Affirmed and noted that Claude Monet, winner of the G2 Dante Stakes, wasn't in the reults.
G1 Goldmine listed yearly winners of the Dante, a significant English Derby prep, only through 1996.

I'm glad to hear that a Mac version is in the works and hopefully will be available soon.
For now I have to try to go to each farm to see if they allow use of the tool. I am not sure if you can get all the benefits that way or if being a direct member gives you more tools to analyze.
Maybe someone out there would be king enough to evaluate a mare for mr on their goldmine tool. If so, pm me.
thanks
