What are your favorite horse racing jargon terms ?

My favorite comes from my old boss.. " I Was Eased!!"

But my own personal favorite, came from the first time I heard.. "He ran up the track." I couldn't make a head or tail of that..

"took a hold of " Tried to explain that one to my mother when we were watching a race. Her reply was took a hold of what ? Doesn't look like he holding on to anything. Or "how bout he cut it in the first quarter or the first half" ,"he looks like he is going to be leaving " . Threw a shoe is another one .

This is a specific harness one " eight one the gate and one a little bit late"
Means theones on the gate and one who starts behind the leading field. "Hung out to dry" "send and send hard"
