Thanks Henthorn. Sounds like a great value but the no guarantee kind of scares me, especially for a first foal.

Do they hold this auction every year?

Thanks,
Laurie

No guarantee seasons are a good deal if you are expecting an early foal on an easy mare, and think you can get live foal insurance coverage for expensive studs.

Yes, it's held every year, and each donor sets his own terms. Some were minimum bid half usual fee with live foal guarantee, or live foal (breedback 2006 only), or no guarantee at half price, or some even higher or lower minimums if the stallion's 2005 fee changed after the donation was contracted. There are bargains to be had, but only if well-thought-out and searched for carefully. For appropriate mares, the prices for Sligo Bay and Olmodavor were real bargains for Mr. Zoellner.

The secret is to have particular mares with particular needs, state-bred programs, fees, and appropriate foaling plans. I felt mine was just perfect, but only for that one mare.
