As things turned out, Shadowless was 2nd or 3rd through most of the race, including 2nd at the quarter pole. But as we all know, it's only where you are at the finish that counts! He tired in the final quarter to finish 11th.

I'm still very proud of him. Emma said he gave it his all. The race was just too long for him. I only bred him to run 6f, but given that he ran well in his 9f prep race, we thought he might get the extra 1/8.

We think he could make a top notch turf sprinter. 6f will probably turn out to be his best distance and he comes from one of the world's top turf familes (same family as Fantastic Light and Swain).

Somebody asked whether the mating was recommended on the Board. I had made a short list on my own which included Stormy Atlantic, but looked to the Board for affirmation. Clark Sheppard on the Board recommended Stormy Atlantic and my conformation advisor (John Neville at Windfields) also signed off - so Stormy Atlantic it was!

Thanks all,
Heather

Congrats Heather :)

I can only imagine the thrill of having your first foal make it to the plate, that in itself is a huge accomplishment! You looked great in the interview on CBC btw, best of luck with Shadowless in the future :)
