In all seriousness, I must agree with Tucumcari's insight. Although many are blaming the current economic condition for current bloodstock prices, the main driving factor behind the decline in the KEESEP yearling market and subsequent crash at KEENOV was a result of supply out-pacing demand as well as the production of stock not suitable for the marketplace.

I believe Rougoluet had a stallion for sale. I know I totally hacked the name up. He seemed like a decent mover and good confo.

Cheap from the racetrack, and cheap in general are 2 different things. Racetrackers look to quickly dump horses that don't run, regardless of conformation and pedigree. Looking to pickup a well bred horse for not much money, at the racetrack, seems a logical decision.

The horse market, though, at this time, is awful. That includes warmbloods. Buyers are looking for horses that are already trained and proven, not horses to start. If your friend is planning on raising and training horses, with a very long term goal of selling, then fine. If she plans on just getting babies on the ground, that she thinks she'll sell as weanlings, she'll be disappointed, and she'll be contributing to the unwanted horse problem that we are seeing today.

Okay I see that I started something here. First of all I appologize if I am coming off like we want to repopulate Nevada with thoroughbreds.
Tammy wants a thoroughbred wether it be on off the track, to make 1 to 3 foals a year ( if that ) for riding purposes that will stay at her facility. We are EXTREMLY short with the thoroughbred supply in Northern Nv. There are 3 Quarterhorse per horse family, but very little thoroughbreds. I dont know anything about the UDF and Quarterhorses, but I do know that some of the worst thoroughbreds that came off the track can still have jobs. This stallion will be riden and showed. I have seen on the Pedigreequery.com that there are some stallions for sale here too, some for a little bit more than our price which is fine. Please try to understand we are not trying to mass populate and she is not in this for selling her horses. But again I am not the type of person that should be telling anyone what they should and shouldn't be doing, if she wants this than I will help her anyways I can.

Karen-don't take what anyone says to heart. It seems that whenever someone on here is looking for a thoroughbred stallion to use for sport horse breeding and not racing they get the 3rd degree. I don't think they realize that there are people out there who could give two craps about racing, like me. I am in the sport for eventing/jumpers, not at all for racing. I could care less what black type they have or how fast they run. I have gotten some very nice horses off the track for free b/c they couldn't run, but they could jump the moon and do it good. Good luck in your search. I really like Rogoulets horse. Sport horse breeders are allowed to breed just like race horse breeders are. Thanks for thinking of giving an ottb stallion a second chance at another career, where he may not be a good race horse sire, but he may leave his mark as a sport horse sire.

Lyn. It's not the third degree, it's reality. We are in an economic crisis, with animals as the first to suffer. Valid concerns and questions.
The current state is not a matter to take lightly. And I am not an alarmist when it comes to rescues or breeding. Ever.
But what is occurring IS alarming.

okay First off let me say, that everyone is right.
Tuc, Danzing and Skipit- you are the check points. The level headed people- Im sorry I dont know if you are male or female- but your vigilance of careful and selective growth of horses, keeps us in check. Its a good thing. Thank You
For the rest of you, thank you for your support on the less successful thoroughbreds becoming riding horses. Our dreams of the perfect riding horse takes off and soar because of you, Thank you
However, I want to question on thing. Does the UDF accept artificial insemination? There might be an idea instead of having immediate access to a stallion, maybe AI will limit the horses bred? Just a thought. But I dont know too much about UDF .. but if anyone knows, maybe theres an idea too?

What's the UDF? Are you referring to the the U S Dressage Federation? If so, that's a sport organization, not a breed registry. In other words, they don't have a say so about the physical act of breeding a horse. Every warmblood resgistry allows AI, as does the AQHA, but not the Jockey Club. You can't register a full TB who's a result of AI except with the Performance Horse Registry (if they're even still around), or maybe some other obscure TB sport horse registry.

Sorry I meant USDF- United States dressage Federation. My Bad.
OKay The mare that is in prospective to be bred is Arabian and Warmblood. So I dont believe that the JC would register it with their registry however she does have other thoroughbreds that she would like to bred.
As far as knowing about dressage rules, hey I m new to it. And as far as what Tammy wants thats up to her. I cant contest what she wants and when.

Actually it's quite the opposite. AI does not, in any way, limit the number of horses bred. In fact, one collection from a stallion can be used to inseminate several mares.

The mare that is in prospective to be bred is Arabian and Warmblood. So I dont believe that the JC would register it with their registry however she does have other thoroughbreds that she would like to bred.

You're absolutely correct that the JC will not register a half-Thoroughbred. Breeding a Thoroughbred to a Thoroughbred would have to be done live-cover for the foal to be eligible for JC registration.

What baloney. The reason the prices of horses have declined at sales in the past 6 months has nothing to do with oversupply of horses. It has to do with undersupply of money to buy them. I buyer with a net worth of 20 million in equity or real estate 2 years ago now has a net worth of 10 million. If you don't think millionaires are hoarding their cash you must be on another planet.
If anything in horse racing there is a shortage of horses to run. How many 5 or 6 horse fields in Chicago or California today. I resent anybody lecturing someone on whether it is appropriate for them to breed a horse. I think it still is a free country.
Another issue is how you are determining whether to breed a horse or not. Some of racing's best studs were hardly world beaters, some barely had racing careers at all. Flip side, many of racing greatest runners produced horses that couldn't run a lick. Very dangerous what is being said here, same views were once said about certain people only having children.
