....and tail-females to Mumtaz Mahal through Mah Mahal. :D That asterisk is tacked onto their family designation (9c*) b/c of the findings from the previous mitochondrial DNA study. They have the same mtDNA haplotype as (I think) family 12, but the Brit stud book record has them with 9. Either way, Inca's from a great damline & is quite a beauty.

And she has proven herself to be tough and a talented jumper. :)

Still dreaming of a bay foal with legs to die for who would grow up to be the next event horse for someone like Kim Severson. Sigh!

DNA for my study. I recently collected La Cueva, Glorita's
sister. I can mail the DNA kits to you or if you're in
Albuquerque, com'on down to the farm and I will give you
the DNA kits and a demonstration on how to do it. It's
actually quite easy.

I probably just overlooked your mares. I've been known
to do that. I'd been going down various lists for mare
owners to contact, but it has been slow and tedious. I
did not mean to slight you or your mares! I've collected
about 150 mares myself, to date.

I was just kidding about not being on the "A" list. (Read the original post wrong and thought you were only collecting for the American families and none of mine start with the A.) Glorieta qualifies, but the others are 1-E, 9-B and 3-G. I'll try to stop by soon and pick up the kit.

babies, including the 2005 ones. Did you ever breed to Devon
Lane and Lazy Lode (Arg)? I was so exhausted and beat up
during the breeding season that I didn't do much else except
put one foot ahead of the other and trudge onward.

I sure did, on your expert advice, and we have the mares confirmed in foal, two to Devon Lane and one to Lazy Lode. Glorieta wasn't cooperative at first so we have a late April foaling date on her and early to mid-March on the others. We were especially happy to see Devon Lane go to #2 on the 2YO Sires list for the last couple of weeks. And of course with the success of Afleet Alex and his Mr. Prospector over Hawkster breeding, we're also very excited about Miss Arkansas being in foal to Lazy Lode.

I hope your exhaustion at the end of the season signals you had a successful and productive one. I may have a new pedigree project for you when you have the time.

It's great to have you join the forum.
