Sand Ridge had a habit of taking a couple of quick steps coming out of his stall or out of the pasture. He did the same thing at the track for years. It was like he was coming out of the starting gate, and you had to be a bit careful. Other than that he was very easy to handle. Was not a biter or a pawer- a true gentleman. On that Monday morning as they were bringing him in, he did the same thing as every other day, except when he went to pivot he caught his hoof.
We are sick about Sand Ridge as well. He had wonderful conformation and was a very intelligent horse. His foals are excellent and there are several that are very close to getting to the races. When we brought him to Texas we knew he had the right pedigree, but that it would take a season or two for him to catch on, which is exactly what happened. He had a good book last year, and while the economy is way down the second half of the year his bookings for next spring were ahead of any other year. I think breeders realized his speed coupled with the soundness was something very rare.
Long term there were going to be some very good opportunities with his daughters as well. His dam is a half to Ball Chairman who is the dam of Perfect Soul. This year my partner and I were going to begin researching his daughters to bring to Sand Ridge, and now it will most likely be the other way around.
For all that did breed to him- Thank you- I hope you are happy with the resulting foal, and we look forward to seeing them on the track!
