Congratulations April. I hope that she has a terrific foal for you ...
And now a question with regards to the time frame for moving them post breeding
I have always been told by our vets over here in North America that 60 days is *the* time frame for moving them. You either move them right after the 15 day pregnancy check or you leave them be until past 60 days, until the fetus is no longer "free floating" but has adhered to the wall of the uterus and then the chances of them losing that pregnancy are very very slim.
The thought over in Europe seems to be 90 days. That to move them sooner than 90 days is risking the pregnancy and from one breeder that I have spoken with on this subject, they dont consider the mares "safely" in foal and able to be moved until 90 days has passed
Any ideas why the 30 days difference in opinion???

No idea why there is the 30 day difference from one side the ocean to the other, as I am sure the uterus's are all work on the same schedule
It is scientific fact that the cups form about 45-55 days. I do hear people, over here, say that 60 is the norm to leave a mare but some prefer to wait the 90 days to be *extra* cautious.
I am keeping Officer Cherrie there for the 60 days. I bet she is loving life down there though as it is already in the 50-60's daily.
And Hey spex4me, how did ya do the dancing smiley??? that is a great one I looked on the "view more Emoticons" and it is not there...
Toccet02; yeah I am sure he does not find his job too taxing.
But I would love to go and give him something anyways and see him up close and in person.
LB 10.5 more months...
Good thing I have 6 foals coming in the next 2 months to keep me busy, then show season, then starting late 2 years olds, then xmas and by then it will be Jan with only a month to wait.... Not too bad
Congrats on the HardSpun little one coming... Guess your will be due quite close to mine then...
Merse; yes those are the best calls for sure. I knew she was 16 days and was waiting the call. Rick told our agent, Timmy, who called the mares owner we are leasing her from and I got a call from him. So then I called the manager at Hopewell to confirm and she was surprised I already know
She wanted to be the first to tell me.

It wouldn't be bad if she threw to that part of the pedigree at all, would it? LoL Good luck with her! Nice mare.
I wish I'd seen Weekend Surprise, but I've only seen pictures. Can you possibly define a little more what you're seeing? We have another mare whose 2nd dam is Weekend Surprise, and I'd be curious to see if the same is true of her.
As for throwing to that part of the pedigree (which would be great, LOL) the mare's yearling filly is by Lemon Drop Kid so that's what we were hoping for.

When I asked on the 60 days versus 90 day time frame this was the response I received:
I, too, wonder at the difference as I am also certain that a European uterus does not act any differently than a North American one does ...
See this is different over here, WE do say until 90 days it can be absorbed and after 90 days its considered a miscarriage and absorbation is more often then miscarriage so that is our time frame we count on.

I will really enjoy having them home!!!
Lickety Lemon is bred to More Than Ready. On paper they are an amazing cross
When you sort sires by Lifetime Turf Earnings More Than Ready comes up 16th on the alltime list with total turf earnings of over $23 million. More than Ready has more turf stakes winners this year (9) than any other sire. What is also interesting when you look at the list of all-time leading turf sires is that More Than Ready is by far the youngest sire on the list -- the ones above him probably have twice as many crops as he has had. Lickety Lemon-More Than Ready cross = turf!
Here he is with all the stats and many recent winners... http://www.vinery.com/stallion_overview.asp?id=8

So both my girls arrived home late last night. I am so darn happy to have them back in my barn and I think they too are happy to be here
Cherrie is in good weight though she does have quite a few war wounds from what looks like being on the bottom of the barrel in the herd and sun bleached from being out on pasture 24/7 except for feeding her grain.
Lemon needs to put on some pounds. She was racing fit and still racing just over a month ago so she has been through some serious life changes.
Both are as sweet as ever and really look for attention when I walk up to the stalls. They need a good week’s worth of grooming. I am going to try to post photos later today.
Bedouwia; I will be posting update of her throughout her pregnancy and of course once the foal arrives. I will be adding her and Cherrie to my website shortly too. Did you see her race in person? how did you become a fan?
