I don't know what all the individual costs are today. I think on average feed and bedding is $15 a day, exercise rider $10 a day Groom $15 a day. That's $40 a day less shoes, vet, supplements.

If a trainer is getting on his own horses and rubbing them too he gets paid when he charges his day rate. A number of the 6-10 horse outfits do it this way around here. Husband and wife or boyfriend girlfriend operations.

Last wednesday I was at the hay auction and got lovely mixed hay for $1.50 ,two weeks ago in Florida similar hay was $12.

The horses don't care as long as their bellies are full. Funny though how they get the best whatever it costs and I go shopping for myself about once a blue moon. I suspect most trainers put their horses first anyway,it never feels like a sacrifice. However that's another story.
