The auction was down, many sold for $1000 and a few hundreds more. And remember a select sale! future is gloomy for sure. On a "better" (not much but hey you have to grab the few rays of hope) in Trois-Rivieres,Quebec(track has been closed for a couple years) they have a short meeting of standarbreds and very successful so far.The horsemen are sponsering it themselves...Anyway,may be it is not TB or QH but at least it is horse racing...

Actually the SELECT sale averaged just over $25,000.00 (down from $32,000 last year) and the OPEN sale averaged almost $5,000.00 (down from last years 10,000 average)

It was a bad sale for sure but they were not selling the Select yearlings for 1k Sylvie.

Woups sorry, the open sale had a lot of 1000$ sales but the select had a lot of 3000$ to 5000$ ones.Raising a horse and selling it as a yearling for that price is taking a loss...and I am not factoring the stud fee...still not good. And even last year was not good, next year I wonder....

The amount of TBs that are already finding there way to OLEX (Ontario Livestock Exchange) in Kitchener on a weekly basis is already horrible. Sometimes they don't even make it til the next day to be bid on, they are shipped overnight to another place in Ottawa. There, they can still be rescued.

Next month, I am sure it is going to be so much worse here.

Can I just say that the girls from "2nd Start" are doing amazing work re-homing thoroughbreds from the track here at Fort Erie. I have personally moved 5 of mine through their efforts and each one has found a great 2nd career. Also I have handled 2 other rescues that they moved from the threat of slaughter, they also went to great homes. It's amazing how the ability to present pics and videos of available horses online has brought these horses into people's home from as far afield as western Ontario,Quebec and even the Maritimes.
