I know that and that's what I'm talking about. Americans have only seen ONE good SS decendant. I know I saw 2-3 on the N. CA circuit and they were cheap claimer geldings at best. Now part of that is that they aren't going to bother coming over here when they have bigger purses, but how much of it is because it's a very rare individual that can compete outside of Japan.

I'd forgotten about him, but he's definitely been doing a good job in the past couple of years.

The Mahmoud comment is interesting to me (though a bit OT...sorry) because of my colt. First, he is just filling out this year at 5. He has 3 crosses to Mahmoud. The other thing that was interesting this past weekend is that a guest trainer came to a training clinic at our barn. He looked at my colt for about 2 seconds and said "Bet he is a Mahmoud bred." :!:

Thanks for all the lively responses! It has been fun reading them. Maybe I should clarify the question a bit though, I'm interested in knowing the leading sire of sires ALIVE today to breed Ms. Hypothetical too. We'll give her some hypothetical bloodlines too if it helps (secretariat x seattle slew daughter). And the owner would be hoping for a stallion prospect to either syndicate in US or keep themselves for their own mares. And they don't mind close inbreeding (since not for the sale ring) so an AP Indy wouldn't necessarily be out.

So far it looks as though Gone West is the best bet? If Hypothetical owner could afford the shipping to Japan maybe Forty Niner or Sunday Silence's best son at stud (whoever that is).

GONE WEST would be good or any Mr. Prospector lines.
Also NORTHERN DANCER line sires would work with with that cross.

"Northern Dancer can count at least ten sons as truly outstanding sires: Be My Guest, Danzig, El Gran Senor, Fairy King, Lyphard, Nijinsky II, Northern Taste, Nureyev, Sadler's Wells, and Vice Regent."
I try not to listen to the voices in my head.

Debatable, but I'd have to say Dance In The Dark. Special Week gets a lot of press too (especially since Cesario) and Fuji Kiseki does alright.

Silent Sakuza and Agnes Tachyon would be the ones I'd like to see over here.

Roguelet Thank you for being the moderator. You know, maybe someone can name their TB foal Personal Attack. Do you remember the photo of two TB's dueling in the homestretch when one reached out and nipped him on the neck? I know 2 in the AQHA world for sire of sires-Dash for Cash and First Down Dash. In the TB's I would rank Gone West and Sadler's Well in the top ten.

Sunday Silence has had a few race in what we may call the Western Hemisphere. He has stakes horses in Layman, Silent Name, Sunday Doubt, Keep The Faith (NTR at Belmont 6 furlongs in 1:06 and change), Sundrop, Sunday Symphony, Zenno Rob Roy ( nosed out in the Juddmonte International at York), and a Gr 1 winning granddaughter in Cesario. I might have missed some out. They say Deep Impact is his best ever so lets see when he comes to race in Europe. I think he has had less than 50 or so foals to race in USA and Europe and he has had all these stakes horses. I think the Darley boys will stand Layman and Keep The Faith at stud so that will be very interesting. Amazing thing about Sunday Silence even though he was a champion on the dirt, his offspring seems to have an affinity for turf!!

interesting how Secretariat is the broodmare sire of the 3 most generally accapted 'sires of sires' Gone West, Storm Cat, and A.P. Indy.

Don't forget His Majesty

Don't forget His Majesty who is the broodmare sire of Danehill and Dynaformer. Cormorant and Pleasant Colony also have been decent broodmare sires as far as runners are concerned.

I think I'd lean toward Sunday Silence as well. Why? Well, aside from the Halo line emerging as a possible dominant sire line (IMHO), I'd want something that all those owners of Storm Cat, Gone West and A.P. Indy daughters could breed TO!
