hi gainesview,
I'am afraid the only way to bring this back is to go back to the past, restoring the instink of surveival, meaning "flightanimal"

Regard's Siegy,

P.S. not with preeding to many stallions, at either hemispere, could be a start,

Sorry to tell you this, but most of the rarer breeds appear to have vanished anytime between the 1930's and 1970's.

Try to find any 1990's Sire going back to The Tetrarch, Hurry On, Carbine, Chicle, Discovery, Broken Chain, Ben Brush, Ogden, Reigh Count, Shut Out, Eight Thirty, Bolero, Bois Roussel, Spotted Bull, First Fiddle, Canadian Spirit, etc, etc.

You will find that most lines originating from the Byerley Turk and Godolphin Barb are now very rare. There are some Tourbillon lines (Byerley Turk) and one Godolphin line (via Man O' War) still available - the rest seem to have vanished.

The biggest problem is, that these lines would be extremely important today. Once virtually everything goes back to the Darley Arabian - all we will have left will be Quarterhorses - because most won't be able to run even a mile.

Good luck,

They're definitely not easy to find - but fwiw Reigh Count's line is still extant in Colorful Kid (1991, Handsome Kid - Marvita by Menocal) in Texas, and sons & grandsons of Saros (Lucky Saros WY, Buck Ana Half CA, Iza Doozy NM) are keeping at least one non-Man O' War Godolphin line active.

Hallo,
it's me again.

As i pointed out the Dark Ronald line is in Germany still existing, see Lando. More or less accidently I came a cross a second strain. Star Appeal (vy Appiani), still Germany's only Arc Winner traces to this sire line, too. Btw, Appiani was a Tesio breed, sadly abovementioned horse was his only topwinner. Interestingly Appiani turns up in ped of Tiger Hill as his dam sire.

Star Appeal's son Star Way was send to New Zealand. According to some articles I read, he was a success in this country.

With a bit research I discovered the Hurry On sire line was extended for a few generations in my homecountry via Captain Cuttle, see the FB's Waldcanter/Wicht. Btw, the Brazilian bred sire Sandpit traces to the same sire line. He was obviously a very grest race horse.

regards, Bettina

Sorry it's not from last few years, but if you want to see what "inbreeding" means... look at pedigree of Gradivo, German classic winner and one of best sires in Czech breeding history. It's worth saying that mare Festa in his pedigree was called "German Pocahontas"...

Baynoun (IRE), sire of Sandpit, may still be active. He has a 2004 filly, and it's too early yet for 2005 SH foals. I would hope that he throws a good sire to continue that line.

Edit: his son Much Better died young, but not before siring a Uruguyan 2yo champion, a few MG1W horses, and a couple of good fillies.

I just stumbled upon another Byerly Turk stallion = this one standing right here in my home state of Texas....which makes two stallions descending from Ahonoora active here in Texas, EASTERN MEMORIES (by DON'T FORGET ME, by AHONOORA) and FINAL ROW(by AHONOORA)

Here's the basic information copied form an identical post in the "Research" portion of this forum.

FINAL ROW 1997 by Ahonoora out of the Night Shift(Northern Dancer) mare, The Jotter...Standing in Burleson, Texas for $750 and currently For Sale on Equinenow.com ($10,0000).

Height is 15.0HH per ad.

Can anyone tell me more about this stallion's race record and way of running, speed - if any? - preferred surface and/or distance?

http://www.equinenow.com/browse-ad-5143

Reportedly a GSP winner and winner of races from 5 furlongs to > 1 mile on the turf. Intensely stamina oriented pedigree

DP = 2-16-2-0-0 (20) DI = 19.00 CD = 1.00 - GSV = 64.34

Conduit Mare Profile = 3-2-5-10-6 Speed = 5 Stamina = 16 Index = 0.48 Triads = 10-17-21

Ahonoora line Stallions

Postby Gunter Prischl » Thu Sep 08, 2005 11:20 pm

Hi jellac,

it appears, that Eastern Memories 1990 is the better bred of the 2 Ahonoora line Stallions you mentioned. This horse is actually quite well bred and should have earned more on the track than it did. This horse would also make a good Sire, as long as people know which mares suit him genetically.
Anyone interested in breeding to Eastern Memories can always contact me on [email protected] for an appraisal - even though I'm living down under.

WHY NOT LINK A SEGMENT OF THE PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO SAVE AGING OLDTIMERS WITH KEEPING ALIVE THE LINEAGES OF RARE HISTORICAL LINEAGES?

Hi Jorge,
I'm trying to do my bit to keep the rarer lines alive by offering to match mares, if possible to just those stallions - as these lines are more important than most people realize.

FYI the "new" Byerly Turk stallion I noted above, FINAL ROW: I input his pedigree incorrectly as"

FINAL ROW 1997 by Ahonoora out of the Night Shift(Northern Dancer) mare, The Jotter...Standing in Burleson, Texas for $750 and currently For Sale on Equinenow.com ($10,0000).

It should read:
FINAL ROW 1997 by INDIAN RIDGE (AHONOORA) out of the Night Shift(Northern Dancer) mare, The Jotter...Standing in Burleson, Texas for $750 and currently For Sale on Equinenow.com ($10,0000).

My apologies for the error...

Rare pedigrees.

Postby Light Ronald » Sat May 13, 2006 12:58 am

Another, rare pedigree is that of the Indian bred stallion One More Time by Sir Bruce (Everyday) out of Nimble (Prince Moika). He is the only ungelded son of Sir Bruce. He is the most recently born stallion that I found on the Thoroughbred Database who is a tail male descendant of Castrel (b. 1801) and The Tetrarch. The Castrel branch of the Byerley Turk line is almost extinct.

Hi "Light Ronald",

I'd like to thank you for your post. Looks like you did even more research than I was able to do so far. I've been looking for tail-male Tetrarch Stallions for ages, but mainly in France and South America. Never thought of India being involved in racing.
Found 2 other Stallions, which may still be around.
Commander In Chief5 1982 and Ivanoe2 1983; both seem to be well bred.
