Who is your favorite TB of all time or--what TB holds a special place in your heart?
For me:
Winning Colors
I was young when she won the Derby. I loved her color--with her greying face. Then, when I started to get interested in horses again--the first picture I found of her--she was completely grayed out! Beautiful.
I will never forget Dave Johnson's call: "Winning Colors in the lead over Forty Niner"
I also loved Forty Niner after that as well.
I also loved the joint entry of Rhythm and Adjudicating. Flat out cool names . . . . .

My all time favorite is 'Secretariat'!!!! With regular jockey Ron Turcotte races into history by winning the Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths. This is the most dramatic moment in thoroughbred racing last century; The Finish OF The 1973 Belmont stakes.

"LIFE IS RACING, ANYTHING BEFORE OR AFTER IS JUST WAITING" -McQueen
Citation because of his record as a 2 and 3 year old. What?.. 29 starts with 27 wins including 16 in a row? We won't see that again, unfortunately. Secretariat would be next and what a thrill he was to watch.
Though I never saw him race Stymie has to be 3rd on the list. Still the "greatest claim" in the history of racing especially for a mere $1,500. At one time he was racings leading money earner until Citation surpassed him. Check out Stymie's race record for some jaw-dropping statistics and performances.

A small chestnut gelding about 15.1 named One Way Fellow. I bought him for $750 a day before he was going to New Holland from Penn National. He was quiet ,unassuming and a joy to train every day. He won 10 races for me on dirt and turf over the next few years and retired to a nice farm up in Canada where he still lives today. You can all rave about the big name horse if you want but my time with him was a personal joy and no horse I have trained before or since even came close. Some horses were meant to cross paths with us in this life and I was only a day away from missing this little gem altogether, I will always feel blessed.

Carry Back, my first favorite racehorse. He was the Smarty Jones of his day, a horse extremely popular with the public because of his remarkable come from behind victories, and his $700. pedigree. A very durable horse, he made 21 starts at 2, and another 30 starts after his Derby victory. He was the first horse to win both the Garden State Stake and the Ky. Derby, breaking a "jinx" comparable to the 2 YO Breeders Cup today. He won or placed in stake races from 3 furlongs to 1 5/8 mile. Won 8 stakes that would probably be Grade 1 today. At four his owner sent him to France to run in the Arc de Triomphe, mostly because it would be good for the sport. After serving a season at stud in Florida, he came back to the races at five and finished his career with a win in the Trenton Handicap. He was 2-4 in his matchups with Kelso. He raced in the major stakes as they came up, some of which may not have been at his best distance or surface. Retired the 4th leading money earner....Sorry, but you asked!

my choice
Greeley's Galaxy because I witnessed his win at Arlington(IllinoisDerby)---I met his trainer in person and he gave me a few moments of his time. Even though our horses only share the same sire they sure share some of the same personalities and character!!! Comparing notes made me feel like my stallion may be someone to try and get a foal from.....in otherwords I am forever hooked. I still look at Galaxys picture everyday-and remember that beautiful moment .....
