I don't have the updated progeny records or race records on the ancestors. But this foal would not be commercial from an unknown stallion out of an unraced mare. I don't know if any of the close relatives have produced black type, but if not, your chances are slim of getting any as well. I'd pass. If you own the mare and have no reason to think she has great potential, I'd get a different mare.

Yeah, you have to go to the mare's 2nd dam to see some hot black type. The stallion, Smart Chip sold at the 2000 Saratoga Select Sale for $675K. :?

He might've sold that high pre-race career, but he was sold again just a couple years ago. He was sold at Barretts as part of the Thoroughbred Corp. dispersal for only $7000. Purchased by Triple CCC Farm. Same farm also purchased the mare you reference for only $1,200 (in foal to Wild Deputy, whose fee is $2,500!) at Barretts the year before.

Thanks for the info...Red. Didn't know much about either. Just wondered if anyone thought they were well bred.
