Excuse me, but what was wrong with breeding the mare?

It is a tragedy to be sure, but why does the owner get yelled at?

Um..yeah
While the welfare of the horse should come first-how the heck is anyone supposed to stay in business if the animals don't pay for themselves? This is a business, and big business at that (to some)-a fatal bleed could have been caused by any number of things and was most likely unavoidable and nothing to do with anything the owner did-I am certain that had this owner had a crystal ball and known that this foaling would kill this mare-he probably would'nt have bred her. You are of course aware that people also incur fatal hemorraging while giving birth-and they made the choice-its nature.

What a shame! I remember Genuine Risk was very difficult to carry a foal, but finally came through after many, many tries. I wouldn't blame the owner. He's blaming himself enough already.

Tairaterces, I'm sure this just touched off a painful nerve with you due to some past experiences. If she had been your mare, you also probably would have continued breeding her after failed tries. :( :?

By making sound business decisions that don't or "shouldn't", with reasonable forethought, jeopardize the health and welfare of the animal. NOTE: I make this statement regarding "the business of horses" in general. I know nothing of this particular situation, and am not commenting on THIS particular situation.

Personally, I think the government and the way it pressures people to have to make "x" amount of $$ in "x" amount of time, is contributing to the negative welfare of the breed and the business of racing. As usual, they have it upside down...they reward those who make decisions that take away from the horse's welfare and punish those who protect it.

What an idiotic statement. You, obviously, have been to one too many PETA rallies.

We had a mare who had 5 healthy foals and her 6th she had the same thing happen.

Are you daft to think he assumed this was going to happen?
