Rescue gelding needs home asap

Postby Arctic Cielo » Thu Oct 26, 2006 8:40 am

Heres the story. The trainer/owner keeps this horse at my farm. He is a 16.3 H bay gelding built like a brick house. He is 11 yrs old and won over $200,000 on the track. The horses reward for his hard work? Well I have a week to come up with $500 or he's taking him to the meatman. The meat man only lives 10 minutes away and he will ship this gelding to Canada on one of the 2 trucks that comes weekly.
I cannot afford another horse at this time. He is a sweetheart, and is quiet to ride. He would be a good trail horse for someone. He does have ankles, but I see this boy everyday and he is never sore. His weight is ok right now and he is just on a cheap sweetfeed with no supplements. He would make someone an awesome dressage horse or just something to play with. He is NOT a cribber. If anyone is interested in helping this gelding please email or call me. He is located in SE Michigan.

No thanks here, the admirable action was taken by you Arctic Cielo, you recognized a situation where the horse was at risk and acted on it. Thank you! Will know more tomorrow. And give that big fella a hug from all of us, what a war-horse he was on the track.

I like the horses racing name. Thank you Artic Cielo for posting this horse needing to find a home. Marli, yes this is different territory but has that ever stopped us from helping a horse? Thanks for the map of the United States. Keep your hooves crossed for good news in the morning.

I've just completed entering the final updates to his race record-

http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=horse&search_bar=horse&h=CALLYA+LATER&g=5&p=0&f=1&l=

These situations occur all the time and although we may not like and disagree with a decision like this owner/trainer has made, he cannot be judged. Like so many others, it is a business and there are no feelings spared for the horse. Fortunately Artic Cielo was in this horses life at the right time and right place and acted to see he get an alternate opportunity.

He sounds exactly like what I need for an interim hunt horse until one of the babies steps up. My old horse is 22 and can't hunt because of OTTB arthritis, and the babies are only 18 months old.

I have nothing to ride, and would like to give a home to an OTTB who has been off the track for a while, is sane and sound. Last one I got was four, had fried brain and chips and bone spurs. The chips and bone spurs could be treated, but the fried brain was permanent. Put me off taking younger horses straight from the track.

This fellow sounds almost ideal. SIGH

This geldings home fell through. He is available once again to a good home. He is now in my hands and is no longer at risk. Quiet but has large front ankles and may need supplements to manage them. He is quiet enough for beginners. No vices.
Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you would be interested. Good homes only and must supply references.
Thanks

I took a look at his sire's progeny stats...what a lot of starts they seem to have had! 110, 84, 75, 66...etc. Wow.
