Registration issues!

Postby Mood Swings » Wed Nov 22, 2006 5:09 pm

I just went through the hassle of taking registration photos, writing down markings and DNA samples for twenty one weanlings and just found out I have to retake photos for just about every weanlings head  What a pain in the a**. I thought I was being very diligent when I took the pics and I triple checked them all for clarity and yet here I am in this predicament. Sucks to be me I guess. It seems the JC wants close up head shots for night eyes, my question is why don't they make that a stipulation on the forums - four body shots and a close up of the head? Is it just me or has anyone else had to do retakes? Oh and don't worry about me I'll be okay

If the Jockey Club is asking you for pictures of the night eyes, youre aiming your camera in the wrong direction.

Are they grey horses? If they're greys, it's VERY smart to be pre-emptive and send in pictures of the horse's night eyes.

I just pulled up the photos on my computer and I can clearly see the night eyes in some (not all) of the pics, so granted I will be sure to get it right this time. I understand it is important to have an accurate record of their description, I don't dispute that. The JC did not request retakes for night eyes for all weanlings, mostly "head shots" and "lip photos" or in one case "close up of upper nostrils - all angles" I guess it's just frustrating as there are so many to redo and I've never had an issue before this . . . .and to add to it all I'm trying to give up chocolate

edited to add: there is one gray and looking at her pic - you are right the night eye isn't very clear. I see on several others their forelocks might have kinda obstructed the view - just a tad

Night eyes are located on the inside of the legs.

I just went through this same thing. Ended up sending copies of all the pictures with the chestnuts circled and had to explain that they would never show up in the picture of one of the foals hinds because they were almost non exsistent. They are less than 1/2 the size of my smallest fingernail

I'm thinking I was crazy b/c I have no idea what night eyes look like. I was thinking all of her poor weanlings have moon blindness.
Why don't they say chestnuts? Oh because they would be making something easy! :D

LMAO Arctic. I was wondering the same thing. Thought maybe she was refering to taking pics in the evening so there was no sun shining on the horse's eyes, or something to do with moon blindness.
I've been around horses 25+ years, and I've never heard that one before.

If they asked you to retake photos of the chestnuts, you might misunderstand and just get all the red horses

I have never had to submit closeups of those chestnuts before, nor markings or anything else. We'll see, I will be doing mine next week.

"Nite Eyes" are chestnuts??! All these years I thought they were whirls or cowlicks - sheesh, don't I feel like an idiot and a little embarrassed  I now understand the request for "nite eyes" for some of the weanlings in question as they do not have any other distinguishable markings.

What gives with the "face photo" though? Does anyone know how to display a picture on this site? I figure if I can post a picture someone can tell me what is wrong with it so that I will never never do it again  Keep in mind I'm technologically challenged. Much obliged[/b]

I had the same issue earlier when registering my 2 weanlings. I thought I was being "high tech" and uploading pictures on the web and then I got a request for night eyes in the mail 2 weeks later. Not knowing what they were, I called and they told me they are "sometimes called chestnuts." I had never heard of them called anything else. I offered a suggestion to put a place on the web page to automatically upload night eyes in the future. I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one confused though! :D

Thank God! I thought I was the only person who had to submit photos after photos after photos :) And I only had two darn colts - okay - my first time doing it - they requested retakes of one colt's front right foot because the photo wasn't clear enough to show exactly what the markings were around the coronet and how far the white went up the leg (less than a damn inch) - then they wanted more exact photos of the hind of the same foot. Then on the other colt they wanted pics of his lower lip from the bottom and from all sides. Wasn't that fun???? Thought for sure I would have issues when I went to do the gray filly but she passed the first time ALTHOUGH I did send the JC no less than 15 pics of her - I took a pic of every leg and every marking. No mistakes on that little puppy. Although they made up cowlicks and when I called they said I didn't note any and I said they didn't have one and they said "they all have one or two on their necks somewhere". The other issue was one of the colts has a cowlick from the top of his neck all the way down his chest - had to give them photos of that. GEEZ - talk about time consuming. I did apologize, explain it was my first time, etc.... - they did too say I might want to take pics of night eyes and I thought what - my freaking camera gave me the red eye thing again - then they explained the whole chestnut thing. When it all comes down to it, the chestnut is, according to the JC - like a human fingerprint. No two are alike. So - don't feel bad - I got it from them twice on only 2 foals. God help me next year when I do more than three (ha). Or better yet, help the JC. Although to give them credit, the lady I spoke with was very helpful and was very nice and understood that I didn't know what I was doing. Just ask the colts and the filly when we went to pull the mane for the DNA test (HA).

I went through all sorts of hassles with the last TB I registered. The photos refused to upload to the JC system - They kept telling me it was a function of my browser (Firefox) and that I HAD to use IE..... grumbling.....

Well, that wasn't the problem. I went around and around with their tech support guy on this, trying to figure out what was going on. FINALLY I opened and resaved the jpg files using my OLD version of Paintshop Pro v.7, rather than the newer version 9 - and it worked. I did file a full report with JC on what did and didn't work - never heard another thing about it.

So, photos finally in - THEN they tell me they are rejecting the name because it "sounds like another horse".... sheesh.

Got to say the people in Lexington are great to work with, though.
