Postby nferro9925 » Wed Jan 24, 2007 9:35 pm

What does everyone think of advertising a yearling filly for $30.00??

Probably a misprint but, with the going rate now between 20-40 cents a pound for horse flesh I don't know. Have you seen the horse listed for $85,000? It's a hunter, can't remember if it was a TB or AQHA. Now that definetly is a typo. I think I saw it on equine hits. It has been there for awhile now. I guess some people just don't proof read their ads.

I hate to tell you but if it's an actual "A" circuit hunter $85,000 would not be unheard of by any means. The good 4 ft hunters go for $100,000 and up and even a nice 3 ft hunter can bring $50,000.

We have a horse in our barn from Palm Beach, 3'6" hunter, bought for $125,000. The girl (15 yrs old) can't ride it and they want to send it back!!!!!

I bought my horse off the track in May for $2,000. He showed inhis first show in November in the 2'6" division and he placed 1st, 2nd and 5th out of 28 horses. A week later we were offered $30,000 for him

Many of the horses at the indoor shows in PA and Washington are over a million dollars to purchase. There is no limit apparently to what some of these people are willing to spend on a horse to pack their daughters around.

Yeah, I know the price of show hunters these days. It is getting ridiculous. The worst part about it is that a good majority of these kids can't even ride these top notch horses that have been bought for them. The ad I am talking about has the horse listed for 85,000 and then states in the paragraph that the horse is 8,500 OBO. So....which is it? If I had a horse with that kind of price tag I would not be listing on Equine Hits but, that's just me.

I'm guessing it's $8,500. If you're selling a hunter for $85,000 you don't need to accept "best offer", usually because your Daddy has a never-ending bank account and nothing is too good for his little princess.

Oops, did I sound bitter??? I apologize. I'm sure all those girls really appreciate what they have and are thankful every moment for their horsies from heaven. Sure.

I think hunters should have more realistic show names......like "Trust Fund Baby", or "I Cost More Than Your House", or maybe just "$$$$$$$".

I could go on with this rant forever.....

The highest price ever offered for a warmblood olympic showjumping horse 5,2 milion dollars, the owner refused the offer gently. By saying the horse ain,t go east nor west, he will stay here.
There were offers from Russia and the US.
Good warmbloods 16-2 16-3 for showjumping 3-4 ft are dooiing about 40K
and up. Need to scope,x rays, good and free from o.c.d. d.o.d

And the top top hunters are fetching upwards of a million dollars as well right now ...

Heck - even the "just nice ones" that cart their owners around the 8 jumps are worth $250,000 - $500,000.00!!!

Ach... it sounds wonderful, doesn't it? $50K for a hunter. But that hunter is probably EIGHT years old or better with TONS of show experience under its girth. So at what cost?

Usually said hunter has a rider and a trainer/riding coach, at a fairly fancy boarding/training place... let's allow $700 a month for that. And let's hope they got the horse as a decent, green broke three year old.. for $2500? Then there is fancy tack, show clothes, boots, etc. for the rider.. trucking to and from shows, entry fees, stall space on overnights, etc. etc. etc. Add it up. You are now WAY over $50K into your show hunter. If you end up with the kind of quality that gets you into the six figures, well maybe that's 10% of the market? Seven figures might be 2%? Well the odds aren't all that much different with racing, it just happens much sooner.

But this brings to mind those credit card commercials.

Fancy truck and trailer, $95,000. Thoroughly trained, pushbutton hunter with perfect conformation, $650,000. Fancy saddle, bridle and show clothes, $6,000. Seeing daughter, who can't ride for s***, win her blue ribbon, PRICELESS.

You are 100% RIGHT of course!!!

I have a lot of friends who are trainers / riders at the highest levels and they are constantly asking me if I know of any nice Children's Hunters, or A/O Hunters or Junior or Equitation horses. And the budgets are mind boggling at times ... One client had a budget of $200,000.00, they couldnt find anything suitable so it is now up to $300,000.00 but they'd prefer staying on the $250,000.00 range if at all possible

And yes - these requests were for going horses that could cart little Susie or Mary around the ring, but the fancy young ones that are 3-4 years old are also fetching $150,000.00 - $250,000.00 prices as well. And they really are not the exception and it isnt one a year that sells for that money - it is anything fancy with talent that the buyers know will appreciate into a $500,000.00 - 1 million dollar animal with a year or two of showing under its belt ...
