More History Disappearing

I went to Cindy Pierson Dulay's site and here are some pictures of Hialeah...sad to see such a beautiful place go to rot.

Yeah, go ahead build a baseball stadium, charge outrageous ticket prices for people to watch a lackluster team, and destroy history while your're at it. Or....

Build condos and give the floor plans lame names like "The Citation," "The Seattle Slew," or "The Needles." Twelve hundred square feet for $650,000 with a nice view of what was the infield.
A horse gallops with his lungs
Perseveres with his heart
And wins with his character. --Tesio

That whole area in Miami went to hell....once the Cuban crime wave came in, Hialeah was surrounded by the worst neighborhood you'd ever want to be in.

I miss the days of being in Miami and going to Wolfie's for breakfast and then going to Hialeah. But, the last time I was there, it was in the middle of a war zone. Ack!

Someone needs to rescue the statue of Citation, if nothing else.

I hate to see things like this. I have been beating the drum for changes in racing that will secure the future of the industry and preserve our good old tracks, so that things like this stop happening.
But, I think it will take more than one voice crying in the wilderness. Too many people don't see a need for anything to change, and they really aren't focused on preserving the industry, only their individual secure place in what's left of it.
Maybe they will build more tracks, but they won't be the same.
So sad.

What other professional sport can you go to with your children and pay for with the change in the ashtray?

People will figure it out one day when the ecomony is too bad to pay a football player 10 million a year, or when a whole basketball team has been benched for fighting, or when serious disorders are developed within our children for watching too many violent movies or playing too many video games.

I hear so many people say 'Yeah I know that Hoosier Park has racing but I just forget about it when I go to Anderson'. Will someone please tell me how that is possible? Maybe we should drop flyers from the sky for people?...Or maybe we all should just go around placing sticky notes on peoples backs that read....THOROUGHBREDS, THE OTHER RACING SPORT!

It's so sad to see this decay of Hialeah. I've heard that Pimlico is also decaying, albeit under a new splash of paint put on each year prior to the running of the Preakness...wish people cared more about historical places and preserving them!

You didn't mean that they are tearing it down did you  That was the most beautiful track!! I had gotten the impression that some racing business men owners were trying to get a historical society involved to help restore it?? Yea the neiborhood did go to hell, the last time I was there I had a craveing for burritos and was told by another groom to go to one of the stands down the street for one, he forgot I'm non-latin I guess, they compleatly ignored me and the gaurds at the stable gate yelled at me for going "down there" alone.
