i can tell everyone is dying to know who this jockey is; i pulled this off another forum, plus i received the same info via pm:
His name is Kevin Mangold. Had some success in Cali with the bug, went to Mountaineer or Charles Town with stops at other tracks in between and then came back to be in Seabiscuit. In the movie he was the jock who wouldn't work the horse soon after they claimed him because he was too crazy. I also believe Mangold has a degree from USC film school if memory serves.
this guy also has a website: http://www.kevinmangold.com/welcome.htm
anyway, i think it's great that racing is getting some recognition for a change.

Clariting Commercial
The first thing I noticed in this commercial is that the jockeys are not carrying whips. Did anyone else notice this?
So glad somebody knew who he was. I thought that this was someone I should've remembered but I was just happy to see horse racing used in a commercial. This is the kind of thing they need to do, just slip it into the day to day consciousness more. They need to have the Tonight Show send Ross the Intern to the Derby or something. Or that guy from the Sopranos that sometimes does bits for them. Definitely make sure after the Derby you get the jock or trainer or something on a late night talk show or something.
I wonder if the whip thing was so people wouldn't file it in their subconscious or if they didn't think they needed a whip since the horse wasn't actually gonna be running.

Claritan Commercial
If the jockeys used their whips in the commercial viewers would equate that to beating horses. That's what the viewers would remember. The vision is not pleasant and would paint a negative picture for the drug company.
