Waquoit euthanized

Postby Blue feather » Fri Jun 15, 2007 2:41 am

I recieved a call from Northview Stallion Station to inform me Waquoit had been euthaized. He was a tough racehorse and he produced tough racehorses.

Dang it! I have been to Northview several times this year and have wanted to ask to see him (saw him in the late 90's) and was always in a rush. Loved Waquoit! :( RIP

He has a nice looking son out of a multiple stakes winning grand daughter of Ack Ack and ND standing at Godstone in PA.

Yes it is, some were worried he might throw large foals. But he was a good stallion. Waquoit and Runaway Groom in the space of a week, so sad.

I am very sad to hear this news. I chose my BB screen name out of admiration for a wonderful, game competitor who filled the entire New England horse world with pride in his amazing accomplishments on the national stage.

RIP, big guy.

What a shame. I'll always remember him splashing home in the (was it the JC Gold CUp? one of the big fall races at belmont)

I LOVE Waquiot. I seriously condsidered sending my mare to him this year but he was just so freaking HUGE. Like warmblood huge. I couldn't get the hip lock picture out of my mind. Godspeed big guy, you deserve your romp at the rainbow bridge with all the greats, I am glad I got to meet you.

Damn! For me Waquoit will always be the poster boy for the demise of racing as it was --a distance-testing sport. Racing secretaries were about to accommodate the plethora of wimp horses onto the slippery slope toward quarter horse racing. When Waquoit won the Jockey Club Gold Cup it was contested at 12 furlongs, now it's only ten. When he won the Brooklyn it was at 12 furlongs, now it's a mere 9 furlongs. Bah! Humbug!

He is for me the last true dirt stayer.

It's sad to see another favorite gone. I was headed down there this summer to see him again.
