Story of a Tough Old Mare - & Man O'War Benefit Painting

Postby Waquoit » Thu Sep 13, 2007 8:23 pm

Several kind folks, on this board and others, have been following the journey of the amazing mare Patience:

We have some great updates to report: not only is she almost 100% healed from her wounds (and will soon be ready to go up for adoption) - she is on full turnout, and even has a "job" babysitting a weanling colt at her foster home!

Here is Patience with her new little buddy:

and watch this nice video of her going for a walk...just 4 months after we were all wondering if she would even survive her accident:

Today also kicks off the EBay benefit auction of this gorgeous, original painting of Man O'War (an ancestor of Patience, as it turns out!) generously donated by the talented artist Pat DeLong:

100% of proceeds will help pay for Patience's medical bills - as well as allow CANTER NE to help other needy TBs coming from the New England racing industry. We have more horses in our adoptive program than ever before, and are seeing an unprecedented need at Suffolk Downs...so every cent raised through this lovely painting will make a real - and IMMEDIATE - difference!

...and please spread the word. Thank you from us (and the royal Queen Patience :) )

Waquoit, I don't remember what happened to Patience.

Thank you Skipitgirl. What an inspiring story. I can't imagine how the volunteer transporter must have felt but she and the good samaritans kept their heads completely, and of course Patience is obviously a very brave horse.

Where is all that green grass. My horse spends all day search for one green blade, it's so dry here right now.

Congratulations to all on a job well done.
