Carson City Dead

Postby LSB » Fri Dec 24, 2004 4:24 pm

There's an article on the Bloodhorse site. He was found "in distress" in his stall this morning and died shortly thereafter. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

I loved him as a sire and a broodmare sire. What a real shame to lose such a terrific stallion at only 17!

That's a shame. He threw some crazies, but his ill-fated Carson Hollow was so incredible in the Test Stakes in 2002. He will be missed by many, I am sure.

He looked VERY bad this year. His coat was awful and he was very thin.

I think that Carson City was the most under rated, under valued Sire of all times, I still think that he will impact racing for years to come. I thought enough of him that I bought a stallion prospect by Carson City (Tough Hombre) that has thrown some beautiful babies, The first crop of only one will be a two yaer old in Jan. (Street Tough) I ended up with 7 last year and have another 8 in foal this year with 18 to breed this season. I hope that he is just half the producer as his sire. Any way I am sick about it. I had hoped that one day I could breed a couple of mares to him.

At any rate Roman should give him the speed rating he deserves as a sire of sires.

Intrinsic Worth, I saw him just about a year ago and he looked fine then. When did you see him? I wonder what happened in the meantime.

I'm glad I have a nice mare in foal to him for 2005. :)

I was actually considering him (pre-planning) for a 2006 breeding to one of my mares.

Certainly hope his son City Zip does well and carries on the line.

There was nothing by him or out of his family down this way. It looks like he left 9 Gr1 winners which is not a bad feat at all. At 15.21/2hh, he was not a tall horse and down this way that would tend to restrict his chances.

I worked at Overbrook this past breeding season. Carson City looked horrible and there were complaints from other farms bringing mares to him that he looked really bad.

He was bred to 131 mares in 2004. I wonder how many he got in foal.

I believe Carson City was underrated, but at $35,000 and 72 SW's
he seems to be a pretty good price.
He will be missed. (sniff)

Did they ever come back publically with the autopsy results? I was looking something up about him and this thread popped up on Google. Wondered if it was cancer as that would explain the alleged poor condition/weight loss.
